also don't forget that he is racing with a restricted hummer, not an unlimited race car lke he does at baja, he is racing against ASO and everybody else, he is playing by their rules, kind of unfair because that hummer could perform better if he had his engine at 100%, he is racing a class1 with only 300 hp, not fair.
well, look at how good he is doing with just that>>>restricted equipment. I don't think it is unfair though.. he chose his path by choosing 2wd and playing by those rules.. Remember that he raced for redBull VW like 4 years ago and they are 4x4.. he has done bettersince.. that seems to be his style, like baja. Also they are only aloud to choose 1 tire choice and he chose sand tires, which definetaly sucked in the rocks, but kicked ass in stage 4 (more desert conditions) and should have in stage 5....dohh!!
Racing is racing...........and this is the Dakar Rally. Overcoming adversity is what this race is about.
Just like there is no crying in racing, there are no guarantees, either. Robby is 10th right now out of over 120 cars that started the Rally! Keep it in perspective. Robby's day will come for the overall win........ Will we all shrivel up and die if it is not this year?
RG is a pretty good funded "privateer team" with a team mate. He doesn't have millions in RD like they do.
The hummer, the restrictions, the 2 wheel drive, is RG going "against the grain".And that is precicely why a lot of us follow him instead of Carlos Sainz, Jeff Gordon, and all the others
They said on TV last night that the VW's were also restricted. However, I agree, Rob doesn't have the resources that a VW or BMW has and in my opinion he has had tremendous success at Dakar. I think one of these days and overall win will be in the cards.
There's a lot of life left in those hummers yet. Here's my prediction: 2 more stage wins and a charge back into the top 5 overall by the end of stage 12. Robby will be driving with a vendetta now!
The bright side is that he is in 10th and BJ is still moving up. We have half the race to go and he may win another stage or 2. The good news is that he has had the most caca happen to him in comparison to the rest of the leaders. I think that the best we can hope for is fifth place finish this year and BJ finishing aroun 20th.
