agree on larry r. andy m. maybe,he said he really didnt like how robby sets up his rides, and as for rob mac, also very good choice but i dont think rockstar would like that very much, and yes the money on carlos's end.
because its all about ROBBY GORDON, that's it, he only needs support, that easy, we want to see him winning like he does aswell, got it, good,. this is the effort of ROBBY GORDON at dakar, not the effort of any other american,. very easy to understand.
and we all agree on that, right? i do.
its not the same like with the vw's or mitsus the factory is racing the dakar not sainz or miller , its like, RG vs VW vs anybody else, NOT hummer vs VW.
I am sure Robby has to sell these rides to keep the DAKAR program healthy. As far I am concerned, Robby is still a single car opertaion at this dakar. Ron and Carlos cannot run close enough to Robby to aid. That could mean dropping 40 minutes if they are out of the top 20 come week 2.
Ron Bailey was more famous for wrecking his TT truck than finishing the rally and Carlos is a bike rider who is switching to rear wheel drive V8 monster. It takes a special talent like Robby to drive the Hummer at consistant race pace for 3 weeks straight. I dont see it in the other two.
That said, more hummer out there means more exposure, which means more sponsors, which mean no more pay to play drivers, to replaced by some real racing talent.
Like I said above it is about money. Robby is still building his Dakar team. Hopefully if he puts up a solid result this year we can get some more sponsorship and put another solid American driver in a truck next year.
IMO, the real question for 2011 is not sponsership but rather will RGM be fielding Hummers from China or another truck Manufacturer's product. I don't think GM or Fiat / Chrysler will have the bucks to back a Dakar effort. So that leaves Ford or Robby has to do it without any factory support.
