Will the #48 and Hendrick be treated the same as other teams penalized in the past?

On the way into work this morning it is being discussed on Sirius NASCAR channel about how the #48 team was found to have short wheel studs during Opening Day Inspection. Some of the callers and even the Morning Drive radio hosts said they did not hear allot about, it and all they knew was
that the #48 team went back and fix the problem and rolled through tech later
and passed.

So the question is does NASCAR treat the #48 equally and penalize them like so
many other teams have been in the past? It was also mentioned on the radio and
posted on Jayski last week that all three Chase contender Homestead Speedway
cars were taken to the NASCAR research and development center for a pre-race
inspection. No word if the Phoenix cars were looked at prior to going out to
Phoenix.

#46
Team Penalized For Infractions At Talladega: Lower A-frames were
filled with weight pellets. $50,000 and 50 points

#7 Team Penalized for Infractions at Darlington: Unapproved additional door
braces. $25,000 and 25 points.

#13 & #47 Penalized For Infractions At Texas: Unapproved added weight,
lower radiator pans. $50,000 & 50 points.

2009

#1 Team
Penalized for Infractions at Chicago: Right rear quarter panel height did not
meet the required specifications, to high. $25,000 and 25 points.

2008

#7 Team
Penalized for Infractions at Daytona Speed weeks: Unapproved front bumper cover.
$100,000 & 100 points. (Point penalty rescinded, but the fine
increased to $150,000.

#66
& #70 Team Penalized for Infractions at Lowe’s Motor Speedway:
Wing mounting locations were not as specified by the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
Rule book. $100,000 and 150 points.

#1 Team Penalized for Infractions at Daytona: Roof of the car does not conform
to the specifications.$100,000 & 150 points.

I could go on like RG getting fined for the unapproved camera shell or #55 for
illegal manifold and substance. The fact is NASCAR has penalized teams for
violation in Opening Day Inspections and I hope being that the #48
was found to have unapproved wheel studs that they treat them the same as other
teams who have been fined in the past, and not over look it as this is the
tightest Chase in NASCAR history of the Chase format.

Atlanta 2006. Robby tosses piece of roll bar padding out the window to bring out a caution.
NASCAR: Fines Robby $15,000 and docks 50 driver and car owner points. Crew chief, Greg Erwin, fined $10,000.

Phoenix 2010. Jamie Mac tosses water bottle out the window to bring out a caution.
NASCAR: Crickets.

I read on The Nascar Insiders that the reason why Jaime Mac didn't get in trouble is because the caution was for debris from one of the cars, not because he tossed the water bottle. It seems some guys are just lucky......

As Bret noted, Harvick and Hamlin certainly are punks, so perhaps that's why some folks feel that either of them would make a nice change. And there is no question that folks are looking for a change,

Personally I think Harvick is the more delightful punk, as he has plenty of personality and no one can say that he hasn't paid his dues over the years. So there are reasons to like him, along with plenty of wonderfully irritating reasons to hate him too. He's the one I am rooting for....the little piss ant !

Hamlin is sometimes bland and occasionally gives the impression of being mean-spirited, so he would not be my personal choice, but it looks as though he may be the one to get it.

I can't hate Jimmy as he has earned everything he has, but I must admit that I've been looking for reasons to dislike Chad, and his willingness to abandon their pit crew after they have brought the team this far has done it for me. It was a terrifically disrespectful and pissy thing to do, and if somehow a mistake on the part of the new crew causes things to slip out through their fingers at the last moment, it would make for a truly Shakespearean moment, and serve them right.

race hub on speed addressed this tonight..

didn't answer why he wasn't penalized.. just that his studs were short.. "it's not really a penalty"... really??
