Not a huge deal, my guess is his car is set up to race b/c final prac. was before qualifying. Here's to a lot of cautions(unlikely) and a top 25.
Yes, it is a huge deal.

The team can't qualify.

RG is DEAD LAST among drivers to start all events.

RG is barely hanging on to the top 35. People want to pretend that is a non-issue with the size of the qualifying fields, but lets go back to the fact that they CAN'T QUALIFY. Add on that the 600 will have a decent size field? Speed is starting in a good position and he and his team are IMPROVING?

I'm not saying RG is going to fall out of the top 35 in the next two weeks, but no one should be surprised if it happens. And I'm not saying that falling out will lead to a DNQ at the 600, but no one should be surprised if it happens.
agreed
Let's say you could make a very decent living doing something really fun, and employ a number of people at the same time. Pretty much getting paid for playing really hard. Let's say you could do this for several years, maybe much longer, and just have a blast doing it. It's work, but fun work, and it pays for itself and keeps you pretty comfortable too. Because of how you choose to do it, you're not the best, and maybe not even as good as you could be if you gave up some control.

Would you do it?

I sure as hell would.
Unless Chip Ganassi or Roger Penske is going to throw him in a car he has no chance to win Indy coming from no where, pushing 40 years old, not having run OW cars full time in a decade,

He could maybe put in a competative run with AGR or Newman-Haas, but beyond that he is too far removed from the cars to come in with one of these field filler teams and do anything different in IndyCar than he is doing in Cup with his own team right now.

He'd be better servered to just run SCORE and BITD full time along with whatever Rally-Raid events Hummer will fund.
How about the Rolex Grand-Am series racing against Scott Pruett?
Grand-Am DPs would be ideal for RG right now....you can race sports cars until your 300 years old....
I can't imagine that Jim Beam will sit through another 2005....not when a career failure like Casey Mears can keep Jack Daniels locked in.
