If it's supposed to compliment the Speed Energy logo then it's off. If it is a stand alone piece then I am 50/50 - doesn't mean it won't grow on me.

I would like it better if the angle of the down stroke matched the angle of the Speed Energy logo and then the beginning of the horizontal line needs to be jagged along the same direction / angle as the down stroke (hope that makes sense).

i like the new look of the #7. But with that said, i have been a graphic designer for 20 years. And i am not sure what designer would put the SPEED logo and the 7 that close to each other. The fact they are both the same color is what makes them look like 17 on the car. Either the SPEED logo becomes a different color or the 7 becomes a different color or you move the SPEED logo. Now with that said there are times when the client looks at are work and decides he knows everything about design. So they tell us what they want, and unfortunately you give in to make them happy. Because we all know that the client knows best! With that said i do like the new 7, but lets stay consistent and keep one look.

I agree with Lee. I get the concept and it will probably grow on me if it is a permanent thing. I guess my biggest question is the timing of the change. One of the biggest things that I preach to my clients is consistent and uniform branding. Given the fact that a ton of promotional materials went out last week in conjunction with the Fast Five deal, all of which feature the old style #7, all of my marketing and business sense and experience tells me not to change it during the period in which this deal is featured on the car.

I think RGM just went from having one of the best number fonts (aside from the RCR cars), to having one of the worst. I get the idea here, but just do not like it at all. It seems like I am in the minority here, but it looks pretty bad. RGM normally does a great job with their designs and fonts (old number 7 design, swoosh paint schemes, the new SPEED logo), but they dropped the ball here. I know my opinion does not matter, and I hate to be negative, but I just wanted to share.

@Nikal subliminal marketing - you just hit the nail on the head. An interesting idea, let's see how it translates.
