I think I'm going to have to agree with pdx on this 1. If you look at the mule there appears to be a shrouding across the back of the radiators which combined with the large roof scope would create a high pressure inside the radiators and exhaust out the side windows. Also if the side windows were to be used as air inlets I would think they would have larger openings to get enough air flow thru. And if the side window openings where not just openings but louvered that could create a vacuum from the side draft instead of pressure! With all that said RG is the expert so either I know he has it figured out!
Makes sense to me/
@7gas: OK. I'll start here: It's established the radiators/coolers are in the rear. There is a scoop on the roof. We can make an educated guess it's not there for cool air for the occupants as it won't be cool enough outside to cool the occupants, but rather the engine. The scoop pressurizes the area upstream of the radiators (inlet side) which are in the back. Logic dictates the fans are located in the back and draw pressurized air in the back (from the roof air scoop) and blow it through the radiators on both sides out through the perforated "windows" on each side. Logic also dictates that without air scoops on each side window, at the back of the windows, there is now way to efficiently draw in enough air to cool the engine. Plus, I don't see any visible outlet on the vehicle for air to be discharged from the radiators that would work. Make sense?
Wow, you people are really out there, wait till the flag drops, I mean WOW....
If I (me and only me) ,I would maybe change the cam timing if it wasn't where 'I' would want them.Other wise why bother it's restricted.
@Hendricus,39mm restrictor
My bet is the air is pulled in throught the side windows. It would make sense to have fans inside pulling the air and ducting it out the triangle hole in roof or out through spares. We know ever since Dakar 1 RG likes a split cooling design to allow for any Camel Grass run ins. There might be additional air coming from the duct on top of windshield, but That would be a trick to get air to flow our 90deg to the direction of the vehicle with just small holes in the side windows. It would be easier to to draw it in. Try pouring a drink out the window of your car at 100mph without getting it on the side of the car (then try it with the rear window open. Then wash your back seat! Not good dynamics
@pdx: I used to work for a GM dealership and on corvettes so I am familiar with their engines, that was more or less just a general question to what they do if any to the engines, not just RG's but any team!
