Check what appears to a "farmer fix"; AKA hay wire and a piece of antenna on a broken wiper arm.

It's works on water but when dust and mud cover your windshield, no amount of rain-x is gonna help. Especially if your windshield gets scratched up.

Rain-X is much cheaper and more efficient. Just apply 3 or 4 coats/applications to a very clean surface, it works awesome
