My first day of Daytona racing was cold but fun. The temps didn't get over 50 and the wind made it feel even colder. Not what I was expecting for Daytona, but it was better than the freezing temps and knee deep snow back home.
The Sprint FanZone was awesome, I definitely recommended it at least once. I was thinking about doing it again tomorrow, but with the rain that's expected, I don't know if there will be any on track activity until the Truck race. We got to see NASCAR officials, drivers, crew chiefs, owners, and media folks coming and going in the garage area. I got to see Robby's car in the garage and go through inspections. I didn't realize there was more than one inspection station, but at least in Daytona, there are several. We couldn't see the first set of inspection stations. We did get to see them making sure the car matched the templates, then it was take over to check the ride height and weight. Of course I got a lot of pictures and some video.
I met Val (VAK7) and we stood atop the garages and watched both duals. You couldn't see the whole track, but we had a great view of turn 4 and then the start/finish line. We also had a large Sprint screen nearby, so we could see the rest of the racing. We also met some other great race fans (two guys were from Toledo). I got Ricky Carmichael's autograph on his way to truck practice, but didn't get a picture. :( We didn't stick around to watch practice, we went to the Wing House for some dinner and watched it on TV. I'm ready to go back tomorrow for another cold day, just hope the rain stays away so they get to go out for Cup practice and truck race.
