#7 SPOT Toyota Food City 500
Pre Race Report

• This is the SPOT – Robby Gordon Motorsports thrilled the racing community when the upstart organization inked a new sponsorship deal with SPOT, a personal GSP messaging and tracking device, for this year’s Food City 500 at “the ring” in Bristol, Tennessee. “We’re thrilled to have SPOT on board as our primary sponsor for the #7 Toyota,” noted owner Robby Gordon. “We’ve used their unique communications systems in our off-road program and we’re excited to have them with us for our NASCAR effort.” (Editors note: While the SPOT device is no-doubt a great tool for outdoor enthusiasts, I’m still waiting for a personal G-SPOT locator device. If I am ever able to find this elusive site, I’ll be sure to use my SPOT to text all my friends as to my location.)

• SCORE One for Off-road – During NASCAR’s off week, RGM’s off-road program was keeping busy with its participation in the San Felipe 250 and delivered a very strong second-place finish in their Monster Energy Drink Chevrolet Trophy Truck. The finish, however, was not without controversy as several teams had concerns with the course. RGM lawyers would only say that the competition was using words like short-cuts, tire treads and code reds. But mind you they have no facts to back up their claims. Gordon’s response was simply that his competition can’t handle the truth.

• Local Boy Makes Good – Long-time Robby Gordon fan Garrett Gleason made news this week when his graphic design talents were recognized by RGM. Gleason’s car design was utilized for this weeks #7 SPOT Toyota sponsorship, a design that stays true to some of the early 7 car design elements and harkens back to the days of the orange and black Cingular car. “It’s a dream for me to be helpful to my favorite company,” said Gleason. “I can’t wait to see the car on Sunday. I just wish the line of hot women out my front door would stop fighting each other to be first in the house. The neighbors are starting to complain.”

Robby Gordon Quotes: “We’ve been unlucky at Bristol over the years, but I think we’ve got a good package for this Sunday’s race. I’m still upset about the BS call by NASCAR in 2002 when I led the first lap ahead of the 24 car, but was black-flagged claiming I’d jumped the start. I tell you what, NASCAR, you come out to Glamis sometime and I’ll show what a jump is.”

Kirk Almquist Quotes: “Ever since Las Vegas, I’ve been spending a lot more time at the shop. My wife said something to me about being in the dog house, but I have to say, I have no idea why. That’s OK; the shop is like a home to me anyway. I have a couch, a TV and my own bathroom….Rob is good at making it easy to live here 24/7.”

Editors Note: I’ll be on vacation next week, sipping Lava Flows on Kaanapali Beach…so I’ll be missing the Martinsville pre race report. While I’m sure this news will cause sadness, depression and maybe even a few tears - fear not. I’ll be back in the saddle in time for Texas to once again regale my fans with pearls of wisdom and witty repartee.

Great report as usual Slider...except it's Kirk Almquist that is unless RG put him in hiding so the wifey can't find him. Garrett, great problem to have. You need any help, you know how to get a hold of me.
Robby, you better put a "Spot" on Garrett, before somebody else recruits this kid
