#7 Jim Beam Operation Home Front All-Star Race
Pre Race Report
• Lady in Black has her way with the #7car – It didn’t take long for Robby Gordon’s Quaker State Toyota to earn its “Darlington Stripe” last week, thanks to some assistance from a fellow NASCAR competitor who’s name rhymes with Humdinger. However the crew was able to make necessary repairs enough to earn a 28th place finish at the track “too tough to tame”. This week, the Robby Gordon Motorsports Toyota will again feature the red, white and blue of Jim Beam’s Operation Homefront in honor of America’s armed forces.
• Crew works hard to fix toe – After the incident with the 44 car, the #7 Toyota brushed the wall and sustained damage to the car’s suspension. Almost immediately, Gordon radioed his team to say that he’d “knocked out the toe.” In something of a confused response, crew chief Kirk Almquist replied, “Ah, Rob…Camile is on top of the box sitting next to me. How in the world could you have knocked out her toe?”
• Rival fan site gets overhaul – In a move which proves the Robby Gordon fan tent is big enough for all enthusiasts, RobbyNews.com launched its newly redesigned site this past week. Early reviews from long-time forum participants range from “stunning” to “righteous”. The launch includes a number of enhancements to the existing site including automatic spell checking, easier image uploading tools, and a “puppies and roses” content detection system. Additionally, new content policies have been established to permit the use of so-called “glamour” avatar photos.
Robby Gordon quotes: “I think I speak for the entire team when I say we are glad to leave Darlington behind us. For the #44 car, I have four words….payback is a bitch. Changing subject, we celebrated Kirk’s birthday earlier this week and we threw together a real bash. We had balloons, noise makers, confetti, cookies and Hawaiian Punch. And we stayed up way past midnight.”
Kirk Almquist quotes: “Last week was pretty tough on us, and we’ve made a couple of necessary changes to the crew and to our training processes. From now on, we are requiring our team members to attend the “Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey” Suspension Mechanics seminar.”
