Thanks for the link to the PIR video. I saw many CART and IMSA events there in the 80's and 90's. Including one of Robby's eary CART rides in the Target car... It was obvious that he was chaffing under the "tutelage" of Eddie Cheever
@pdx, LOL, I rode Portland for the first time in 79 and last in 89 (newer course) Pacific is my true home race track.I raced a Late Model there in 0-10. Last time on a motorbike -92.before switching to 4 wheels.
@Mike,
Re PIR, I started watching races there in 1964 on the old course, which was alot more interesting than it's present layout. It was a great road course then, much longer, as it went into was in now Heron Lakes Golf Course (leave it to the city of Portland to ruin a good road course in order to build a friggin' golf course out there). Anyway, when they redesigned the circuit to allow said golf course it ended up being, as you say, a truly boring course. Made up of lazy, sweeping corners, of no character, and no real challenge, not at all like the old course. The first time I went to Sebring, I was amazed, by the character of the course, and how none of the corner resembled the previous. Truly classic. Sadly, PIR remains a potential to what it could have been, but not anymore. Everyone seems satisfied with what they now have. Pardon my rant all.

an enteresting note about Portland.When running the course without the Fesival Curves (as shown in this footage)
Portland has a faster front straight away than Daytona.(at least on a TZ250) Personally I think Portland is boring and characterless and I broke off my left pinky (image highsiding, exiting the left hander at the 2:42m mark)
I saw a P-3
WJM - In the Portland video you sent. See the (2) Corona Cars towards the rear. Mike Henderson & John Daley?
I was on this team..Thanks for this..
The driver in the video is Steve Schuler, who currently owns the car.
Check this out: 1990 IMSA GTO race from Portland with rookie driver "Robbie" Gordon in the #9 Whistler Mustang
