Stage 13 - Friday, January 16

La Rioja > Cordoba

Connection: 161 km | Special: 545 km | Connection: 47 km | Total: 753 km

After having swallowed thousands of kilometers, participants will face a first-class physical challenge in this next-to-the-last stage. State-of-the-art pilots must maintain their position, while amateurs must avoid an excess of confidence. Errors can leave bitter memories, since this will be the day of cacti. At the bivouac, doctors will no doubt be called on to wield the tweezers. Finally, for the experts of traditional rallies, certain routes are part of the patrimony of the World Cup that takes place every year in Cordoba. Here, aficionados will guarantee a large popular fiesta.

so which is better for VW financially, for Miller to win or DeVilliers? - That's who's gonna win....
DeVilliers
Well, De Villiers codriver is German. I wonder why VW doesn't put the two South Africans together (De Villiers and Pitchford)
Interesting question. Now that VW is a major sponsor of SCORE, and have built a Tourareg Trophy Truck for the Baja races, theres gotta be some value to them of having the first American to win Dakar on thier team, and have him race in the 500 and 1000.

I really don't know what the situation is in South Africa, or if DeVilliers has much of a following elsewhere...
Aren't they going to race two full time TTs? Who is in the second? I'm sure its not Sainz.
When I add De Villiers to my tags, my stats go sky higher than normal sky high. There are a lot of people hitting my blog from search engines for him. He has a following but from what I see it's mostly South African ISP's.
The sad thing is Americans will most likely go 2-3 and you probably wont hear about it anywhere.
Its not like you're going to hear about the Dakar much of anywhere in the US. There is minimal coverage. Thats just the way it is. I don't remember ESPN saying anything when RG won his first stage.
agreed
maybe espn deportes this year!
That is the nature of this beast I suppose. I can't remember ESPN doing anything, but I think BFG or one of his other sponsors took full page ads out in several newspapers celebrating it. I'll have to dig mine up to see who it was. You would just think as Americans become more successful and more people follow it would be a bigger deal.
Speed, or should we say Lack of Speed, does not even cover it on their web site. Which is sad as some years ago they had some of the best coverage.
