Mitsubishi Motors to withdraw from Dakar Rally

TOKYO, February 4, 2009 — Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced today their decision to withdraw from Cross Country Rallying, starting with the legendary Dakar Rally.

In its 26 entries in this event, Mitsubishi Motors won the rally a total of 12 times, including seven consecutive victories. In addition to this unparalleled record the company also gained 4WD technology that informs its production vehicles, most visible in their durability and off road performance.

The sudden deterioration of the global economy made it necessary for the company to focus its resources more tightly, leading to today's announcement.

He announced a driver for the 3rd Hummer but look how late it was before he announced the driver for the 2nd one for this year. And we are talking about Robby so you can just never tell what is gonna happen
Maybe it's time for RGM Offroad to start making some money selling Dakar cars to some of these unemployed drivers. They don't have to be on the Team Dakar USA team, just sell them the cars and support.
the hummers will be alive and kicking in 2010 Dakar
Is the Hummer deal still a go for 2010 even if GM sells off the division?
robby should hire luc alphand he would bring some great resourses to the dakar usa program
Where's the fun in competing if the competition is so weak?
Nope, there's always(in racing) someone who steps up, at the end of Dakar, how many drivers did you really know or follow?
A..... W is a W and an L is an L
yup. Last time I checked it still says Buddy lazier won the Indy 500,although the 'experts' say it was a watered down field that year.
I was thinking the same thing… Racing has been up and down from the beginning and I don’t think any Daytona 500, Baja 1000, Indy 500 or Dakar Rally winner or sponsor would let you take away any part of the W they own forever!

Too bad for the team Mitsu guys, they were very cordial to our team.
And it is openly and rightfully mocked by fans top to bottom.

Really, have you ever met a single person that says "Indy 500 Champion Eddie Cheever!" with a straight face?
VW may be going WRC racing but who is left in it. Last time I looked it was Skoda, Ford, Misui, Citroen and Subaru. Skoda is a division of VW so will VW take Skoda's place?

As to Baja and SCORE, VW will need to reengineer their trucks to keep up with the big air breathing V8's. No restrictors in this series.
