Robby Gordon's Hometown This Weekend California For The Auto Club 500.

After Being Disapointed At Dale Jr. For Forcing Brian Vickers Into Robby I Expect Robby To Have A Fine Performance Run At California This Weekend, Just As Long As Know One Crashes Into Him. We Will Have To Wait And See How His Car Performs During Practice And Qualifying For The Race.

Nice i'm up top in turn 3 and 4. Its the best spot. Last year there was all kinds of action in front of us. I still remember hearing Tony Stewarts tire blow before he slammed the wall in 3 and 4. Good stuff.
I think it will tell us how much Toyota is willing to help Robby. They have all the resourses Hendrix and Rousch have, but will they share it with RGM is still a big question.
I dunno, I think it is more exciting to watch a driver run down another driver and work at passing him for position late in a fuel run. It is also fun watching the guys running toward the back of the lead lap running side by side in the middle of or towards the end of a fuel run. Or watch a driver jump out to a big lead and watch that lead get shorter and shorter as a run goes on. And more lead changes aren't necessarily exciting since sometimes those lead changes are a result of a driver just pulling over and letting a faster car pass or pit stops (scheduled or unscheduled). But then again, I am not one of those fans that has to have two or more drivers swapping the lead every lap or so for the race to be exciting.
I was reading in the Pasadena Star News this morning that Jamie McMurray says Fontana is one of his favorite tracks.

It is really cool watching the drivers try to whoa it down to get onto pit road...flames shooting out the tailpipes, locking the tires up and smoking them. It is great.
I have my scanner tuned into Robby's channel. One ear covered so I can hear what is being said over the radio, and the other ear uncovered so I can hear the cars go roaring by.
Robby sucks at this track...

Average performance as an owner/driver
8 starts
Average start: 31st
Average finish: 32nd
Best finish: Last spring, 18th
Worst finish: 43rd ('06)

In my best Walter Cronkite voice... "That's the way it is"...
But if you look at the February race finishes as an owner/driver, they have improved every year (35th in 2005 -Engine Failure, 26th in 2006, 21st in 2007, 18th in 2008). He is showing improvement in the cooler temp race at Fontana. Now, the Labor Day Weekend race is a different story (34th in 2005 - Accident, 43rd in 2006 - Transmission, 41st in 2007, 40th in 2008). He ran worse in the hotter temp race at Fontana. With the second race being moved to October who knows how that will play out (depends on if we have a heat wave or if it cools off or is somewhere inbetween).
