Tommy Baldwin Racing tabs Giles as head engineer
MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Walter Giles, formerly a race engineer for Dale Earnhardt Inc. has been named head engineer for Tommy Baldin Racing, the team announced Thursday.

Jennifer Morrell, formally the team manager for TBR/Evernham Motorsports, will serve as team manager.

"These are two really important hires for our race team," Baldwin said. "Walter Giles brings a ton of technical support to TBR and Jennifer Morrell brings a lot of NASCAR experience on the team management side. I am very proud to have both of them as part of our team."

Giles, who has a mechanical engineering degree from Western Sydney Institute in Sydney, Australia, brings to TBR more than 32 years of engineering knowledge and driving experience to the team.

He moved to the United States more than a decade ago after winning more than 200 races and seven championships in various racing series as a driver. Giles began his NASCAR career working for Richard Jackson Motorsports in 1997. He made several stops before landing at DEI in 2005. He was first hired as the race engineer for DEI's No. 1 car driven by Martin Truex Jr. In 2007, he was promoted to head of race engineering. During the past year, Giles has been the crew chief for Robby Gordon, Marcus Ambrose and Johnny Sauter.

This should turn into an entertaining thread...

I will say one thing, back in 97 that Richard Jackson #1 car ran really well with Morgan Sheperd, Lance Hooper, and Jerry Nadeu driving. They barely had a sponsor (R&L Carriers for part of the season), but they were very competitive at certain events. Perhaps Walter is a decent engineer, just an awful crew chief... Nah I doubt it...
matt is right this will be good to follow

but I do like tommy and riggs, now I feel for them
I could not resist, its was like staring at me.
Every other team in NASCAR should be relieved to know that Walter is employed with another team and will not harm them or their race cars. I heard most teams saw what Walter did at RGM and actually put a lock on their shop doors to prevent Walter from coming in for an interview.
Once again it seems that RGM is NASCAR's crew training ground.
Is Walter seriously that bad? I know the 1 car ran better with him as team engineer than it has since he left. I know he was not the best crew chief but according to some, he can make a car fast.
He was SATAN.
Time to get over it, don't you think?
From here, which is far from the action with zero insight, he seriously seemed worse than bad. From some of the scanner stuff I heard, if I was Robby I would have kicked his ass. Good luck to him - far far away.....
He was the only one of Robby's CC that I openly wanted gone.
Can't get any worse. He didn't help Robby to much last year
Robby has been staying in the top 35. We have to give credit to Kirk. The bad memories are behind us.
