"For the type of asphalt we have here in Texas any type of fluid literally has to be power- washed. For any petroleum-based fluids we use Joy soap and the soap breaks down viscosity of the petroleum so it doesn't eat the asphalt. Late in the race I saw [Robby Gordon] blow an engine and I was like, 'get down to the apron, get down to the apron,' and of course he didn't. He went all the way around the track. That guy made it a really long night for us. Two crews and five hours of pressure-washing all the way around the mile-and-a-half tack and then we had to put oil-dry down to soak up what was left."
taken from Nascar.com the guy commenting is Mat Stolly track manager.
Mat just a question to you maybe there was traffic and could not get down safely.

yeah and old mat failed to mention that he has the best seat in the house and didnt have to pay a penny for it. He also gets to hang around his favorite drivers all weekend and so on and so on...what a dick!!!.
I guess what Matt wanted was the Big One with Robby immediately cutting down to the apron in front of a good portion of the field. Anyway, Matt didn't have to do the cleaning. He is Management and needed to just sit there and watch the peons put down the Joy. I guess he is bitching because he had to stay and watch while his buds from the track went someplace for a couple of brewskis.
CANT GIVE THE RACE AWAY,please dont judge all Texans by this guy, most of us are hard working people.I would scrub the track for 18 hours straight, just to be there.
I agree Scott. I would much rather clean the oil off the track after the race than walk through the stands picking up after people. You never know what you will find in some of those cups/bottles/cans...or worse yet, on those items if someone had too much to drink and had a revisit of everything they ate and drank (shuddering at though from the fall Fontana race 2 years ago).
i agree with both you mario and scott 100% instead of wasteing so many laps of the race, the track crew should just at least do something with the oil but not taking forever to do the job
During the race, they need to get as much of it soaked up as possible so as not to create a hazard when the race goes back to green. Thus, putting the oil dry down, then blowing it off the track or sweeping it up. The quicker they get that done, the better...although lately it seems to be taking them awhile to do that.
The new synthetic oils are really hard to clean up. The track workers do it as fast as they can. NASCAR reams our asses for being too slow no matter how long it takes. We have to use the oil dry, hoppers, brooms, ect that NASCAR tells us to. We are told every move to make on the track by race control, and you had better listen or your toast. Dont blame the clean-up crews. On race day this year we could have cleaned the track up quicker if NASCAR would have let us use our own products, but they do things thier way. They have to to make sure they are consistent.
I'd assume they are paid hourly, and in this economy making extra money should be a good thing. They should be tahnking Robby for the extra money in their next check. I hate people who whine when they have to actually do their jobs.
Do you people honestly believe this guy is throwing a tantrum over the oil on the track, rather than making a tongue in cheek comment?
WTH was this guy thinking? How many people in this country are currently unemployed or nearly unemployed right now(be glad ya got a job dude)? How many engines have let go this year whether at practice, qualifying or during the race(blowing engines isn't exactly something new-& doesn't really matter if its the high groove, apron or pit road-still has to be cleaned up)? It's not like he personally went out there on his hands & knees & scrubbed the whole track like my grandma used to scrub the kitchen floor. But finally-what is he thinking using Joy- almost every mechanic I know uses either Cascade or Dawn. We did try Joy at our shop years ago-it was cheap--but worthless.
Was going to add my comment that Dawn is the product of choice by Haz Mat workers to clean up oil. Joy does not cut it.
Is Joy the official dishwashing detergent of NASCAR? Can't have another product competing - even if it's better.
