"The Squid" could help 4 tire pit stops get under 10 seconds
One rumor that has leaked from the garage by a unhappy former crew member is that a former Indy engineer is working on a experimental new air gun for a Nascar team. The new air gun "The Squid" is alot heavier than the standard Nascar air gun because it has individual power driven sockets that will allow each bolt to be removed simutaneously with the touch of a trigger. The trigger will spin each socket at the same time allowing a tire changer to remove all the bolts on a tire in the time it takes to remove one. It's rumored to remove all 4 tires from a car in less than 5 seconds with 2 tire changers.
"The Squid" has one big challenge, putting bolts back on. A team would have to put bolts back on the way the do now with a individual air gun or figure out a way to align bolts with a Squid. Currently bolts are glued to the rim and a tire changer individually screws them on one at a time. Because the Squid is so heavy it tends to knock bolts loose from the rim when under timed pressure. If the Squid can overcome the putting tires on issue, then crews will have to work on getting fuel into the car faster, otherwise they'll be waiting on the fuel and not the tires.

It's not an article, it was on a radio show. They were talking about the oil deal with JGR with a former Cup crew chief, he mentioned "The Squid" when talking about teams trying to create competitive advantages...I thought it was interesting, they started making jokes about the JGR oil & the squid and it turned into some adult humor talk real quick...and they changed topics and started talking about Joey Logano getting his first win of the year.
Just posting what I heard...just like when I posted about the JGR oil...then a day later jayski posted about it also...it's stuff people talk about on an off week...have you driven a Ford lately? (LOL)

You still refer to the Ford thing, get a life guy. As stated before, if you actually had any contacts in motorsports you would know how close RGM was to running a Ford this year.
You wrote two "articles," never cited a source, or never said you heard it on the radio. It was in the Wall Street Journal well before you wrote anything, do not act like you got some sort of scoop here. Whatever, maybe I should show the screen capture I took of your "paint scheme" that you created dedicated to me to clue people into what kind of person you really are. I only reference the Ford thing because you ALWAYS have to be a smart@ss to everyone. You forget we're all on the same team...Robby Gordon fans. You always try to discredit other's opinions. I don't post anything trying to act like I'm in the know, I post what i see or read. I don't care if it came from CNN...it's just news. You're the only one that states I wonder where this article originated. Maybe you just read it wrong.
I attached the link for where the JGR oil deal came from, was just stating that even jayski posted it the next day after we had discussed it here, meaning it's just news & rumors. Most people post their opinions or comments, they don't attack the original poster. I only posted what I heard.

Different forums? Or just Race Dezert? I was referring to people thinking RGM would be chase contenders this year, complaining about slow practice times, etc; all things I have commented on directly on this site already.
I dont bash the site or what TOG has done, just fans who have no clue what it takes to run a Cup operation and will not LISTEN to people who have been there. I have to be honest, I figured Robby Gordon fans would be more in tune with reality and more tolerent to subpar performances; its not like this is something new. Moving mountains with shovels,RGM has to pick their battles at its shocking people cannot grasp why they cant be running up front at every race.
Its the internet, do my comments bother you that much?

Bother me? No I try to add info from inside the garage, or based on my experiences. Or I try to defend the work of RGM, mainly because I know as an engineer if I saw people saying my work wasnt good enough after putting in an 80 hour work week I would be irritated.
Clearly I am wrong. We live in a society where heaven for bid you correct anyone, or disagree with someones opinions. I'll stop adding anything to the discussions, and just watch and laugh. Have fun with the practice speed bitch fests...
You were the one complaining that I was still posting here, my comments on another site were added because a member brought up the posts here.

I remember this too! I think it was Riverside and I thought it was a Penske car. I don't remember anything about B. Allison or the Matador but it was way before Penske South Racing ( Wallace and Mayfield) so I seem to think it was a one race deal for Penske with a road racer. You're right though, NASCAR said no, so it's a waste of time, then and now!

During the segment (which was part Nascar stuff, part humor & part farming stuff) he mentioned that with the COT, teams are going back and looking over everything they can to create a competitive advantage, even outside the car. Pit stops, oil, different types of metals, anything. He suggested the COT limits so much teams could do
