That was strictly because Michelin would not make a tire that had a sidewall that would take the lateral loads that the F1 cars were making going thrus the final turn on to the fronstretch. It had nothing to do with the racetrack...

I think it is both, tires and cot.they are not compatable with drivers, track and each other today.
