# Robby penalized for rear axle: NASCAR has issued penalties to the #7 team that competes in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series as a result of rules violations committed at Lowe’s Motor Speedway earlier this week. The #7 car, driven and owned by Robby Gordon, was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4I (any determination by NASCAR Officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-10.6H (rear axle housing exceeded the maximum specified toe of plus or minus one degree) of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rule Book. The violation was found during post-race inspection on May 25. As a result, Gordon has been penalized with the loss of 50 championship owner and 50 championship driver points. Crew chief Kirk Almquist has been fined $50,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31.(NASCAR PR)(5-27-2009)

The comments on the Jayski story are interesting - It's running about 65-35 in favor of Robby.
This post caught my eye ---

What I find interesting is Robby got penalized 50 points which is still a lot for him, but last year after the 18 got there axle confiscated Nascar came back and said there was nothing wrong, but they could not run that configuration anymore, and he went on to tank in the chase, but no fine or loss of points. Again it might be a coincidence, but it just reminds me of what Kyle Petty said. Nascar penalizes the smaller teams to send a warning to the big teams to stop.
I threw one up there (bakemcbride21) almost all the people that comment on there are friggin' idiots.. Not even because they are anti Robby, but because they have absolutely no intelligence whatsoever.

those who post, "ROBBIE IS A CHEATER HE SHOULD STAY ON DIRT HE SUX"

has nothing at all to do with any kind of intelligent discussion on the matter at hand, and quite frankly America would be better if these people just closed the garage door, started their cars and off'ed themselves via carbon monoxide poisoning. They are a drain on society and probably took out 3 year arms on their mortgages...
So it would be safe to say that RGM did in fact do something wrong....
it's only cheating if you get caught !!! take the slap move on!!!!!!!!!!!!!! life is good NASCAR was fair get over it GO ROBBY!!!
i agree with indytim, was this a major part of what their set ups were based off of ?
50 points isn't too bad :-) compared to some other penalties that have been handed out (like poor Carl Long!!), so I guess it wasn't something too awful. Though the crew chief fine seems harsh at least he wasn't suspended from any races which seems the norm in many recent penalties. Not being a mechanic I really don't understand what the specified toe is. Is it a problem with how the part was machined or something the team did in their set up?
Road Courses are coming... Road Courses are coming...
From here on out, Rob needs to assume NASCAR will be on his butt 24/7.

I can see another pop quiz come Sunday - just to make sure. And the road courses - Rob could get taken out and finish a lap down and his car will still be torn apart.
Nascar wants to know whats wrong with the sport. They should read all the posts about the penalty's. Some of them are just stupid but 90% are in favor of Robby and Carl. People think there is definitely some bias against the small teams. someone said it best they fine the small teams to worn the big one's. I think that is do true..... on to dover
All nascrap would have to is state the facts and not try to cover shit up and more people would believe them
You're exactly right. I think this meeting they had was just a big giant act of back pedeling(sp?).
here is a little tid bit........Robby flat sided the right side and smacked the rr.........did that bend the axle the half of a degree it was off????????????
