I want to cry im so frustrated.......i don't understand there is a reason tony is leading the points....he should have followed him in the pits....i love RG but i want to yell F*@K
haha, it's all good, if it's taken til 2 in the morning to finally say it, you've done better than most it seems like. I'm sure Robby's still up right now doing the same thing
This sucks! I'm so bummed i'm up in the middle of the night reading this entire post ( might need to get a life.. or at least a little perspective.) Random thoughts:
Robby and crew: The look from the in car camera said it all - we all feel your pain. All I can say is someday, somehow, eventually, good things happen to good people - keep your heads up and keep digging.
lots of posts wondered what happened at the end - Who has spent 25 years being the least aggressive driver on the track - Martin. Who is his #1 protege with a similiar style - Burton. Robby had just had his hopes crushed and was pissed (weren't we all?) wHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK HAPPENED?
Robby didn,t drive the 28 after Irvans wreck - he drove it years earlier when Davey Allison died from his helicopter crash (93?)
Robby's 13 car was the operation owned by Dan Marino (who else would use #13), I don't remember who the original driver was.
I Thought Robby was already past pit in when Labonte spun - it was impossible to tell on tv. If they had a chance to pit and didn't that was a mistake(you know a yellow is coming) But if so it would have been a split second decision in the heat of battle - tough to do. The bigger point is this - no matter how many of you want to rag on Ambrose for causing it, the fact is Labonte shut his car down and waited for the yellow. Is Nascar a piece of shit - YES. Was he out of the way and not a safety threat - YES. But they all do it. Its the oldest trick in the dirt track book "Oh, Oh, it wont start (yellow flies) Oh, there, it fired! - or in sprint cars "Oh no, I got a bad restart, and lookey there - my car jumped out of gear!, I need a push. I've even seen Robby do it, but of course when he does Nascar waits 2 laps, then throws yellow( I,m not kidding). TV made a big deal out of Kyle Bush trying to restart his car and finally did (I'm not a fan - but good for him). They didn't say anything about Labonte (luckily for him he didnt have an in car camera)
I was really disappointed that PJ was a start and park, but for a different reason than most of you. With all the screwing around - a trip to Laguna Seca, no practice time for PJ, etc., I just KNEW Robby had something up his sleeve(aka cloiff jumping , course cutting, grey areas, etc.) I thought (and hoped) that PJ was the solution to Triad motors fuel usage problem. Short pit on the last stop ( instead of 1 or 2 laps after Stewart, 1 or 2 laps before Stewart!). PJ drops back to 1 lap down(probably not much of a drop at that point) and picks up Robby to draft on the long straights, or even push from behind(its only illegal on the last lap) If PJ cant keep up to push or is holding Robby up in front, pit him every 7 or 8 laps for tires and adjustments and do it again! I know it would save a couple laps over that last run.
C'mon Dave!, it was 4 am and I was depressed from the race (not a great time for "research") , how about a little slack? MY bad on the 13, I guess RG just took the number, eh? Sorry. But I was right on the 28, wasn't I?
There is actually more in common with the #13 Marino team and Team Gordon than you think. The First Plus Financial team was co-owned by Bill Elliott and Dan Marino, and operated out of the Irvan-Simo Shop. That team dried up in 198, but did attempt the Daytona 500 in 1999. Robby then came in and operated Team Gordon out of the same shop, some of the same cars:
As a matter of fact, you can go to Robbys web site and look at shop pictures from Team Gordon. There are still First Plus cars in the shop. Also, it was Simo who helped design the road course car that revolutionized road course racing. I know Robby took it with him to RCR a few years later, but I still cannot confirm if it was the car that won at Infineon and the Glen...
That was the #35 Tabasco Pontiac. Hancher promised Tabasco the world, and delivered a team that had crap equipment bought from Mark Rypens team.
The team was folded into Tyler Jet Motorsports, which was DWs old team. They soldiered on through the years with different drivers, with Benson almost winning the Daytona 500. The team eventually merged with MB2, which then became Ginn, and finally disbanded with "teams" being bought (points really) by DEI...
Dave, not a big Kool-Aid fan! I usually get ripped for posting anything that is not 100% Robby Kool-Aid. You don't like drafting at Sonoma?(What about WG, much higher speeds there?)... Fine... Push his ass all the way down each straight... Ya think THAT might make some fuel? Maybe you should reread the post. lol
BTW, Yes, the sun is up here in Kansas, too! On we go.
Hey, the sun did come up today. What do you know. Hate to not be so gloom and doom, but I grew up in Buffalo, this shit is nothing. Have a great week!! It's summertime.
Can I also expect the sun to come up here? It is still dark.
Things are improving and will continue to improve. Eventually Robby will win a race but we will continue on this roller coaster ride.
