DEI's Max Seigel isn't happy with the delay on negotiations with Truex. RCR is still trying to lure Truex over to their organization and Penske might be getting help from sponsor UPS.

It appears UPS will only commit to a team with a Chase contender driver and one that is considered a next generation driver (equal to Hamlin and FedEx). Stewart/Haas and Penske are both heavily in talks to land UPS, but only if they can deliver a Chase driver. Martin Truex and Ryan Newman are the two drivers available that meets the criteria. Penske is trying to get Truex and Stewart/Haas is trying to land Newman.

The decision of where Truex and Newman land might be more in the hands of UPS than either organization. It will be UPS's decision that will allow a team to have funds available to make such a hire.

The Wild Card is RCR and General Mills, they still are in talks to land one of these drivers as well.

DEI has Bas Pro Shops under contract for next season and could move talks to other drivers if Truex doesn't finalize the deal soon (hearing Aug 15th). The driver DEI is rumored to pursue is Jamie McMurray.

This must be the "Robby Who" thread???
Who cares?
Guess I should have added the previous posts to this thread also... again, if Truex leaves then Paul Menard is rumored to probably leaving also. Either to Yates or RGM.

Menard is waiting to see what Truex does first. If Trues leaves then many believe DEI will become a sinking ship. Unless...(Music please) DEI hires Jamie McMurray or someone else to drive the Bass Pro Shops #1 (they're under contract until 2010 with DEI). If Truex bolts, leaving Aric Almirola in the #8 and Regan Smith in the #1...it could get ugly for DEI. Kinda what happened at Yates when Sadler left and M&M's stayed with Gilliland for only 1 year, or when DJ retired and UPS stayed with Reutiman 1 year. Most sponsors have a peformance clause, but not a driver change clause. Owners like to be able to put their choice of driver behind the wheel.
Truex staying at DEI, details to be released Friday.

Looks like Newman will be at Stewart/Haas in the #4 with UPS.

Menard will probably stay at DEI, so doubtful he'll move to RGM
FOX sports has a report that Truex has signed a deal for the 2009 season with DEI.
Dominos (dominoes?) are falling and the bone pile is getting smaller....except add Yeley to it now.
Did DHL drop their sponsorship of Penske's ALMS team? I can't imagine UPS signing on with his mediocre performance in Cup and a sponsorship conflict with his ALMS team which actually fights for titles.
With Truex staying at DEI, Max Seigel has already stated they will focus on signing Paul Menard to an extension. (So scratch Paul off the possible RGM list for 2009)

Menard had already informed Max he wanted to wait until after their negotiations with Truex were finalized.

With Truex out of the silly season mix, It's pretty sure thing UPS will join Newman at Stewart / Haas in the #4. Penske had a shot at UPS if they could sign Truex. I doubt Geberal Mills will ante up against UPS to steer Newman to RCR.

RCR will probably have to decide between Mears, JJ Yeley, Riggs, Wimmer or another unemplyed driver. Only Mears is a previous Cup winner.
