Just about every NASCAR fan today has heard the term “Double Duty”. It is a term used to describe a driver that is doing two events in the same day. It used to be common to hear it when describing a driver doing the Indy 500 and Coke 600. Today, it describes a driver doing the occasional Nationwide and Sprint Cup race on the same day. But Robby Gordon is going to do a Double Duty of a completely different kind.

For the first time in 20 years, Robby will be returning to Crandon Wisconsin for the 40th Annual Borg Warner Off-Road Championship, which just happens to be the morning of the Sprint Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Over 1000 miles separates the two tracks that he will be racing at that day.
Gordon is no stranger to off-road racing. He has won several championships in these types of events, including the Mickey Thompson Stadium Series and the SCORE International Series, as well as wins in the Baja 500 and 1000 events.
Doing this style of Double Duty will be no easy task for him. The weekend will start on Friday, with practice for the event in Crandon. Then he will meet with his Cup team in Atlanta for practice and qualifying events there. Saturday night will see him fly out of Georgia and back to Wisconsin. He will attend practice in Crandon at 9:30am on Sunday, with the Pro 2 Class race starting at 10:30. At the completion of this race, he will board a plane to return to Atlanta for the nights Cup event.
In the midst of all of that will be getting thrown around inside of a truck making jumps and sliding sideways through the turns, as well as the g-force felt by a car going 190mph plus around one of the fastest tracks NASCAR has to offer.
These events will kick off an entire week of various races for Gordon, as he will also be running in Tony Stewart’s Prelude to the Dream race in Eldora on that Wednesday, the Score Terrible’s Primm 300 to be held September 11th through the 13th, as well as the Chevy Rock and Roll 400 in Richmond on September 12th. When all is said and done, it is quite possible that Robby will spend more time on dirt that week than on pavement.
While most same day attempts cover different types of vehicles, it is not too often that we get one that involves different vehicles and different racing surfaces. Thanks in large part to NASCAR, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Crandon Off-Road Raceway, and Gordon’s determination, we will be treated to an altogether new style of Double Duty.

Looks like Sept 4th - 13th will be another stretch for the "Robdometer".
Speedy, I dunno how else to confirm it. I've posted it before, that I heard it from Rob, he says it in the TORR interview posted here,& this is a link from Rob's twitter account. He'll be there, the truck is in the shop tour video on the main page. It's a for sure. If you need Rob to call you personaly, maybe one of us can work on that for you ; )
Can we expect any of the dirt activity to be on TV?
if you go to rg.com on the off-road page it says crandon is live on abc
I said that back when they rescheduled the Prelude and he's since added Crandon! Just another reason to love the guy... He still isn't sure how he'll manage Primm/Richmond since starting times haven't been published yet but no doubt he'll find a way. His expertise at all those dirt events should give him momentum when he gets into the stock car.
If anybody is going to Crandon and wants to give Twitter updates and photos, let us know ! I think that will be cool to have a twitter updates of that event. I do know the TORC series is pretty good with their updates of their events.
I'm 50/50, got the IRL event here in town the wknd before. If I can financially pull it off, you can count on twitter updates. Ya think if I stand @ O'hare with my thumb in the air Rob would scoop me enroute from ATL, to WI???
Going to Crandon..will hopefully be able to get close to the action and get some good pics, not very handy with the Twitter though. Do they even have good cell phone reception wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy up there?
Hey, I was on vacation, but this is great news. I figured that RG would be able to run the Saturday race no problem, but wondering about Sunday's schedule. I am going for sure now!!
I just heard that RG's sponsors for the TORC Crandon off-road race and for the NASCAR Atlanta race will be Polaris. Polaris will sponsor Robbys Double Header weekend!
Polaris for both races on the same day - now that's cool! I hope it goes well so Polaris will be tempted to pick up more races.
Lots of exciting stuff going to happen in the second half of the season.
