RGM sits 34th with 1608 points. He is very close to start moving up. Position 33rd and 32nd are well within reach this weekend, and 31st is possible.

To reach 33rd, beat Paul Menard #98 by 10 positions
To reach 32nd, beat Paul Menard #98 by 10 positions & beat Michael Watrip #55 by 12 positions
To reach 31st, Stremme is 91 poinst ahead. Stremme would need a poor finish and RGM a Top 10.

Quite the contrary. Above par results as a single car driver / owner with a shoestring budget in today's Cup series.
Lower your standards far enough and "everything is good".

Lower your standards far enough, and RGM is a success.

Lower your standards far enough and Michael Waltrip is a great driver.
Gray, I have very high standards for myself and I am also a realist. I play soccer and I try to win every game. I expect to win when we play a team that has access to the same class of players we have. I don't expect to always win when we play against a team that has some of the best players. We play our hearts out when we play the better teams and we still feel rejected when we lose. Playing the best makes us a better team. In the end we realize that we do not have the same caliper of players that the other team had.

RG consistently beating Hendrick / Roush is like our local team beating DC United or the US National team. Given the opportunity I would love to play them but I wouldn't expect miracles.

RG has the ability and opportunity to compete against the best teams and drivers on a weekly basis. Given his team and budget you can't realistically ask for too much more.

And no, I will never Michael Waltrip is a good driver.
Amen... We know he can win with as a driver only, been there with RCR. Done that. When he does get his first win as an owner it will be the sweeter than anything he could accomplish otherwise. Even if that win never comes he's still accomplished more than the others just by merely making the race every week as a single car operation. He's bucking the trend in today's NASCAR and holding true to the real spirit of racing. He will have my respect no matter what happens on the track.
'zactly!

I don't always understand why he does things the way he does, but he's doing it his way, and I appreciate that.
Shoestring Budget?? ROFL!!! He makes $15-20 Million a year......racing!!
Are you saying Robby's sponsors pay the same amount as Lowes, Dupont, National Guard, and Kellogs to Hendrick; Shell, Jack Daniels, Catepillar to RCR; and 3M, AFlac, DeWalt, and Crown Royal pay to Roush.

If so then can I have some of what you are smoking?
Why not say that? Ten times a week someone who is supposedly in the know says that RG only races Cup to pay for SCORE. So there must be fuck-tons of cash floating around on the NASCAR side.....
Yea, I have noticed that too. Do you think Jim Beam supports spending money in Cup so Robby can run SCORE? There is the idea that Cup may build up the infrastructure and build knowledge that can be used by other series. I am sure there is no direct relationship.

If that is the case and it is found out then it will be tough to get any future series sponsor. I think Robby is too smart of a businessman to allow that to happen. At least I hope he is.

FWIW, I am not "in the know".
Yeah, I think it's a bunch of BS.

Really, think about it. Jim Beam and Menards are sponsoring Cup and essentially allowing monies to be directed AWAY from Cup somehow (driver salary) over to SCORE? Monster doesn't actually fund anything? Its funny that the people saying it seem to think Monster is a great sponsor and should come to Cup, but why would they if they money they invest in Cup is going to just be redirected to SCORE? And if they're not actually funding SCORE/Dakar properly, what kind of shitty ass sponsor are they anyway?

The entire thing is pretty absurd, but it is always entertaining to hear. But there is plenty of entertaining stuff around here.

And really, if RG is happily stinking up the Cup field and taking sponsor money to run in the dirt, then HE lacks integrity. So yeah, why people even blabber about that stuff, I have no idea...
Could it be possible that Robbys offroad deals ( and he has a bunch of them ) cover the expenses for his offroad program ? Say it isn't so.
all good things come in time. it will happen eventualy.
