Another PR Nightmare For A Nascar Driver - His Sponsors Can't Be Happy Right Now

From Jayski - For the second time in a week a NASCAR driver is in trouble with the law. A.J. Allmendinger, driver of the #44 car, was arrested for drunk driving, Mooresville police say. Allmendinger was pulled over around 1:30 a.m. Thursday along Highway 150. According to police, Allmendinger blew a .08, which is the legal limit in North Carolina. Last week Mooresville police say alcohol was a factor in an accident involving NASCAR driver and team owner Michael Waltrip. Officers investigating the accident suspected Waltrip was drinking, but when he was given a field sobriety test, he registered a .06. In North Carolina the legal limit is .08

Petty's have VERY strong feelings about alcohol! And just yesterday Best Buy announced they were moving from the 19 next year to sponsor the 43 driven by 'dinger. He must have been out celebrating his good fortune...
Kyle and Patti are removed from the operation, but it was Richard who still tells tales about his mommy's insistence that liquor never be a part of his racing operations. They wouldn't field a Busch series entry because of the series sponsor. The #9 is still owned by Gillett. And 'dinger will drive the 43 next year. The King is still very much part of the operation, despite the truth that it isn't the Petty Enterprises of the golden days.
I also remember when they won a pole (a while back, no doubt) and didn't get the Busch pole money because mama wouldn't allow the busch sticker on the car. I respect their principles (and their right) but it seems a little hollow for a family that made millions in racing, because of somethink called WINSTON Cup.

Nice !
So here in Illinois, after being charged with DUI, a breathalizer is mounted in your car. You have to blow into a tube (under the limit) before you can start it. Anyone know how this will be mounted into his racecar,& will nascar allow it? Will all other cars have to mount a dummy inside...kinda like the fake camera bubble?
at the VORRA races in prairie city calif last year one of the guys had a breathliser in his truck so after a few shots i blew into it and the truck started
next we found some guy who was puking drunk and the truck still started LOL!!!!!
Timothy, I raced with VORRA in the 80's when Ed and Jenny still ran it. I did not know it was still around. Any more races there this year?
They will only need that when they race in Illinois. When they race at Talladega they have to have a cooler with at least a half rack of Miller Lite in in the car.
According to the press reports that I've seen, he failed the field sobriety test.

That means that he failed one or more the elements of various tests conducted by law enforcement during the traffic stop. Such tests can include the one leg stand, walking in a straight line toe-to-toe, or the HGN test. It really has nothing to do with his BAC. I'm not familiar with the traffic laws where he was stopped, but here in Wisconsin you can be charged with OWI even if your BAC is below the legal limit. The officer making the stop has to be able to articulate why he stopped you and then provide specific details from field sobriety test that would indicate that you were too intoxicated to safely operate a motor vehicle. In many cases that's enough for the charges to stick. Of course, having a BAC above the legal limit always helps! It's sort of the icing on the cake...
i want to know why waltrip wasnt cited. I dont know about nc but here in AZ you can be charged with dui or dwi even if you are not over the limit. All the police have to prove is that you are impaired to the slightest degree and that was a factor in an accident.
I think its the same in NC but Mikey got away with leaving the scene of his accident two years ago and he was drunk then.
