The Chilean Carlo de Gavardo lived a black day in the third stage of Dakar. The huelquenino was officially disqualified from the race after he failed to pass through checkpoints, a fundamental requirement for timed testing.

The Chilean court sustained the clutch of his Hummer, and had to be towed to the end of the third stage of the competition by a truck. Therefore could not pass through the checkpoints, and suffered a penalty which meant his final exit from the competition.

The Chilean government invested nearly $ 1 million in the order of De Gavardo.

The pilot Huelquen native, will try until the last minute to appeal, and that the organization will allow at least enter Chile as a competitor, it is the direct representative of the Chilean Government, which invested $ 1 million for the conditioning of your car.

De Gavardo knew it would last for a penalty not pass through control points of the third stage, but hoped at least to let him remain competitive, but risked being last in the overall standings.

"The car was walking, but the changes passed and no progress. I thought it was the gearbox, but it was the clutch. I am very disappointed and sorry but I do not pay anyone's leg and enter Chile evil, is not to my liking . The ideal was to get results, but so good, "said a disappointed De Gavardo.

So I take it the 528 is DQ'd also?
So do we make "Rally for Carlo Shirts"? ......... too early?
this sucks for RGM Carlo and the Nation of Chili ,a host of this grueling event! Rules are rules and the dunes arn't exactly the best place to over haul a drive train. Hopefully ASO can reconcile a decision that at least keeps this H3 on track. In any event its all the more reason for Robby and his Ballistic wing man to go for it.

My message to our South American friends in Espanol is Sentimos su dolor. Su entusiasmo y la amistad es un don preciado. Carlo o no son todavía familiares.
Must stil be meeting with ASO, official sight still shows him in 36th overall, no penalties yet and not on the withdrawl list.
he will be dq for sure, just remember what happend to al attiyah last year, he got a big DQ,
This really sucks, all the Chile Hummer needed to-do was finish. I so rarely comment on these threads but I am so bumbed about this. I can not imagine how the team feels. But it is what it is and now it is time for 302 to start knocking down stage minutes......
Total bummer for Carlos and the whole Hummer team and us fans ... Hope he can get the appeal an da tleast 'represent' on his home turff ...
amen !
in my little opinion De Gavardo need retarded cam 8 to 10 degrees to reduce the torque V8 engine in low rpm, thus reduce the posibilitie the damage in the clutch,V8 engine Hummer is extremaly very high power in low rpm, don´t need the extremaly power, recomended normal power in V8,if the temperature water is normal, inside engine no,the atacama desert is very arid and the engine work very hot inside the combustion chamber this situation generates very posibilities the damages,be careful the atacama desert is very treacherous, the wind is very dry.
send the best! good luck & good race.

Good ideas Alejandro. It may have been just a bad part. Given the fact that the 302 and the 351 had the same clutch and they were fine it is possible it was just a part failure. Too bad, we at the Planet were/are so excited to have Carlo to cheer for. The daily race chat had lots of excited Carlo fans.
Driving style could also be a factor, no ? i.e riding the clutch, etc. ?
I really think this have to do with the problems Carlo had on Stage 2 with the engine, he said that the engine sometimes had no power and sometimes full power...it sounds to me that the problems are related.
