The reason I don't think this is the Case is because when Robby crashed out of his second Dakar they made him fly out. He was allowed to continue on for one stage, but this is because he was in too remote of an area to get out. Also last year when(al attiya...I think) was DQd they forced him to quit. Essentially the ASO uses DQs because they believe the competitor skipped the checkpoint purposely, and therefore was cheating. Carlos' skipped the course b/c he couldn't handle the route with his vehicle, like al attiya, and therefore is DQd rather than penalized. If someone knows the rule better than me please let us know.
Is Carlos dq'd? If so, time to gut it for spares
No, keep it running on the course "for spares".
He's not allowed on the course if he has been DQd
The way I understand it he can follow the course (for support) but is not timed or scored.
SEE point 2

15P4 RACE VEHICLE BECOMING AN ASSISTANCE VEHICLE
1) Crews excluded or retired must leave the rally and remove their race numbers and
rally plates. They may continue on to Buenos Aires, through the daily bivouacs, as an
assistance vehicle after having:
informed the Race Direction, via the Crews’ Relations Officers, or via Iritrack phone
their door and roof race panels modified,
obtained a road safety map,
exchanged their crew’s bracelets for assistance bracelets,
returned their safety beacon, Sentinel system and their Iritrack to the suppliers,
exchanged a race GPS (ERTF) for an assistance GPS (Tripy).
2) They must neither drive nor stop on the race itinerary on the same day as its passing,
nor on days preceding its passage. They must respect the instructions stated in this
document and conform to the assistance vehicle regulations.
3) Failure to respect these clauses will result in the retaining of the deposit and the request for
sanctions from the entrants’ federation.
Well... OK then, srip that sucker down.lol Actually, I would guess that it will continue to parade along each day to at least get Chile a little pub for their million $
Everytime I get all "Negative Nelley" Robby sticks it in my face...I love it!
Then keep those Negative Nelley vibes going!!!! LOL
Do we know if Robby made it through all the checkpoints ok? Tracking at Dakar.com was kind messed up with Robby today. Then at Dakar.com it says: Pending validation by the race marshalls, American driver Robby Gordon (Hummer) wins his 1st scratch victory on this 2010 edition of the Dakar, his third victory in total in the rally raid.
Yesterday they were called stewards, the day before they were marshalls.
NBD. They always say that.
