The Chilean Carlo de Gavardo lived a black day in the third stage of Dakar. The huelquenino was officially disqualified from the race after he failed to pass through checkpoints, a fundamental requirement for timed testing.

The Chilean court sustained the clutch of his Hummer, and had to be towed to the end of the third stage of the competition by a truck. Therefore could not pass through the checkpoints, and suffered a penalty which meant his final exit from the competition.

The Chilean government invested nearly $ 1 million in the order of De Gavardo.

The pilot Huelquen native, will try until the last minute to appeal, and that the organization will allow at least enter Chile as a competitor, it is the direct representative of the Chilean Government, which invested $ 1 million for the conditioning of your car.

De Gavardo knew it would last for a penalty not pass through control points of the third stage, but hoped at least to let him remain competitive, but risked being last in the overall standings.

"The car was walking, but the changes passed and no progress. I thought it was the gearbox, but it was the clutch. I am very disappointed and sorry but I do not pay anyone's leg and enter Chile evil, is not to my liking . The ideal was to get results, but so good, "said a disappointed De Gavardo.

Thank you Luis for the insite. Carlo's enthusiasm and smile represent Chile well. Mike

He'll always be an ambassador from Chile! In fact it is for all his career why the Dakar is in Chile!

The people here are "two-face" applaud when they do well and critic (kill them) when they do bad .. people are very envious.

Eliseo for me with this term to discredit the truth I do not like to expose what happened in a foreign forum but the fact that what was being said very badly about Carlo. In any case in the news today he was interviewed and asked him what he have to say about Eliseo comments ... you are talking to Carlo de Gavardo ... 3 times World Champion, and 13 Dakars. Greet Eliseo for me.
Eliseo please you are the most important chilean pilot dont´talk bad,we are one big family the fanatics and raceman in the world.
Carlos degavardo, carlos sainz,Roby gordon, giniel devilliers, prost, michel schumager, stephan peterhansel,O terranova and much other pilot around the world they are your partners they are your your frends they are your race family.
Seriously, who couldn't have seen this coming. Robby is going to have to deal with this headache for a while after the Dakar is over. I feel this Carlo was over matched going into this, and driving two wheel drive trophy truck/Class 1 style chassis with a Hummer body is nothing like driving those all wheel drive rally cars were going up against, just ask Mark Miller. I know Robby needs support where ever he can get it now a days, but sometimes you need to think about where that support is coming from.

This is racing and anything that can happen will happen, and when you run out of talent what happens is always bad. In my opinon Robby gave them what they paid for and Carlo wasn't able to step up enough to compete at the level of the Dakar or it's competitors. Not saying he is bad, even the top guys in the sport have gone out just as fast, but in this case it sounds like driving style cause the clutch to fail and bad decision making cause them to be DQ.

Now let's hope Robby can put together some more days like today, because yesterday really hurt us, but there is a lot of race left and anything can happen.

By the way does anyone know who is driving BJ's TT at Laughlin?
I think you're making a lot of assumptions there Wesley. All that's really known is that the clutch went out in the Chile Hummer, and it happened early in the stage. Could be driver error, or could have been a bad part. Perhaps a combination of both.

I'm thankful that the Chile Tourism Board stepped up to sponsor a Hummer this year, as it helps the entire RGM effort. It's too bad that car is out before it even reached Chile. I'd like to see them back again next year.

In the mean time, let's hope Robby and BJ can kick butt in the rest of the Rally to prove that Team Hummer is worth the investment.
What assumptions, i'm just being honest. I have been riding in sand dunes for ever and it is real easy to take out a clutch even if you know what your doing. I just think it was asking a lot of Carlo to achieve any kind of success in this Dakar with what little experience he had in these type of vehicles and the limited time he had to prepare for it.

Honestly, I'm just jealous and a little pissed, because I wish I had the chance to due such a thing as race in the Dakar with a premier vehicle like a RGM Hummer, and to see someone not take full advantage of that chance just rubs me the wrong way. The fact is they had to know they would be DQ, with there actions, so why do it. They could have limped through the stage and fixed the problem afterwards, but they didn't. Instead they quit and through a lot of hard work by a lot of people away and may have DQ a support vehicle also.
Well it's nice to see he is being a man about it, don't see that to much now a days. It sucks things didn't go better for Team Chile, it would have been nice to see 3 Hummers motoring through some of the later stages of the Dakar.
In racing SHIT HAPPENS even when you plan for it! Ask Roma if he thought he'd be out on the third day?
I'm happy to say when I think Carlo,I think Chile.
A rough translation of above per Babelfish:
"That it punishes the eliseo words, I am not deacuerdo with him, it is not been worth who now says that there are expenses that have priority, are always them, that is crisis age, always is some crisis, that others estan first, always is the somebody first that aid needs, subject is to run in DAKAR, so that, instead of to criticize aid to the other national pilots not to arise, and he is left of meanness, if this is the only form to raise a Chilean pilot a machine of constructed end in the USA thanks to the Team Hummer, for that reason well is spent the money, neither eliseo nor Carlos have machines thus, then it is necessary to leave outside to obtain them, to learn but of them, in our country that spent state money in Carlos is a very good investment, independent of the other aspects, just now is wanted to give to understand because him a damage to the country can be done, I I am I content, finally that spends state money in the motor sport, with that is occurring the opportunity him to Carlos to prepare itself more good, already is a good ambassador of Chile, deserves it, one of the little places of Chile that can make something that runs as for the DAKAR can be the city of copiapó they have experience, but a Hummer like that difficult one, for example the machine Nissan Nº428 was constructed and prepared net in Antofagasta, is made in antofagasta, then we can that to make them, nonequal but can, and seen very good copiapinos pilots like also of other cities, in copiapo you close have the dunes and you can work in the machine with all the experience that have they, is to add support, of which all we rowed in the same sense, Don Eliseo you also, I do not have left but which to thank for to Don Roby Gordon and its Team, they hisieron what corresponds, Chilean we have we them to learn but of this and to prepare to us more good and to support our people although is mistaken eliseo Don, if the next DAKAR is made again in Chile is possible that in Antofagasta machines are constructed but to participate, not like the Hummer, but definitively in Antofagasta there is great entusisamo by this race, but it is needed to have but enrolled, but Chilean pilots with its machines so that they are helped in the way and cooperating in the course of the competition, this competition is hard and of long breath, the best form to participate is like equipment, we are useful that we have a great ally, the vehicles of loss 1000 can be made in Chile in an economic version but that is used for the competition, they would allow Chilean pilots to compete in the DAKAR, that is what there is to make invite to Roby Gordon and its Team to the Raid of copiapó by the end of January, that perhaps knows says that if, thus will have the opportunity to know them and to learn of them, perhaps but Roby has ideas that wants to share, to make competitions, etc, can be done in you see of Loss a 1000 Atacama 1000 and thus we give the possibility him to those of not being single and to prepare itself for the DAKAR."
WJM, thanks for doing this. You would think as much as I go down to Mexico a year I would understand it, but my dumb ass took art in school instead of Spanich and I regret it everyday.
it is a shame eliseo`s words, I am do not agree with him, it is not valid now to say that there are expenses that have priority, there always will be , we are in a crisis age, there are always crisis, there are others first, always is the somebody first that needs aid.

The subject is to run in DAKAR, instead of criticize, why you do not aid the other national pilots so they can get a better level, and he is left of meanness, if this is the only way a Chilean pilot can get into a machine made in the USA thanks to the Team Hummer, for that reason well is spent the money, neither eliseo nor Carlos have machines thus, then it is necessary to go outside to obtain them and learn more about them.

In our country that spent state money in Carlos is a very good investment, independent of the other aspects, just now they want to made look that he can harm the image of the country. I am happy, finally that goverment money is spend in the motorsport, with that is occurring the opportunity him to Carlos to prepare itself more good, already is a good ambassador of Chile, he deserves it, one of the little places of Chile that can make something that runs as for the DAKAR can be the city of copiapó they have experience, but a Hummer like that difficult one, for example the machine Nissan Nº428 was constructed and prepared in Antofagasta, it is made in antofagasta, then we can that to make them, nonequal but can, and seen very good copiapinos pilots like also of other cities, in copiapo you are close to the dunes and you can work in the machine with all the experience that they have, the thing is to add support (knowledge), of which all we rowed in the same way.

Don Eliseo, you also have to support, I do not have anything but which to thank for to Don Roby Gordon and its Team, they do what corresponds, We "Chilean" have to learn more about this and prepare us better and to support our people.

Although you are mistaken Don Eliseo, if the next DAKAR is made again in Chile. It is possible that in Antofagasta machines are constructed but to participate, not like the Hummer, but definitively in Antofagasta there is great expectation about this race, but it is needed to have enrolled Chilean pilots with its machines so that they are helped in the way and cooperating in the course of the competition, this competition is hard and of long breath, the best form to participate is like a team.

Seize that we have a great ally, the vehicles of Baja 1000 can be made in Chile in an economic version that can be used for the competition, they would allow Chilean pilots to compete in the DAKAR. This is what we have to do, it is to invite to Roby Gordon and its Team to the Raid of copiapó by the end of January, who knows what can he say perhaps he say yes, thus will have the opportunity to know them and to learn of them, perhaps Roby has ideas that wants to share, to make competitions, etc, it can be done an Atacama 1000 like the Baja 1000 and thus we give the possibility him to those of not being single and to prepare itself for the DAKAR.
