Charlotte, NC (January 14, 2010) – After clenching last year’s championship, Robby Gordon will return to SCORE International Off-Road Racing competition for the season opener, the Laughlin Desert Challenge, January 15-17. Gordon and members of his Monster Energy / Toyo Tires team will travel to Laughlin, Nev., immediately following the conclusion of the Dakar Rally on Saturday, January 16th. Gordon is expected to arrive in time to race in Sunday’s final day of competition.

In last year’s edition of the Laughlin Desert Challenge, the Monster Energy / Toyo Tires Chevy CK1500 trophy truck dominated the field by securing the pole on Friday, finishing second on Saturday and winning the main feature on Sunday. After recording a near perfect weekend, Gordon claimed the overall victory in the unique two-day racing event.

This year, Gordon has entered his father Bob Gordon in the No. 1 Monster Energy / Toyo Tires Chevy CK1500 in the event. Recognized as a legendary off-road racer, “Baja Bob” will qualify the No. 1 Monster Energy / Toyo Tires trophy truck on Friday afternoon by running one complete lap around the 6.25-mile loop. Bob will then compete in Saturday’s 8-lap race before handing the wheel over to his son for Sunday’s main feature. Gordon’s starting position on Sunday will be based on the finishing order of Saturday feature.

This year, 26 participants are expected to race in the featured Trophy Truck division of the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge. Saturday’s and Sunday’s events will include an 8-lap race around the 6.25-mile loop, which is expected to get underway at 1:00 p.m. PST on both days. All drivers are required to complete their eight laps within no more than 80 minutes, and the overall winner will be determined by the least amount of elapsed time needed to finish both days’ feature races.

“Racing and SCORE desert racing are clearly two things that I am extremely passionate about,” commented Gordon. “To compete in fourteen stages of the Dakar Rally and then rush back to the United States to race in the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge is something that most competitors would never dream of doing. After dominating last year’s event, we definitely have high expectations for this year’s race as well. I’m happy to have my dad in the Monster Energy / Toyo Tires trophy truck on Saturday; I’m sure he’ll get us a good starting position for Sunday.”

yup. Interesting choice....
To say the least! Steve must be holding some good dirt over Robby's head! LOL!
I found this on RDC, Robby's TT twisted driveshaft from qualifying yesterday.

Chubby Checker has nothing on that "twist "
maybe they need to run a restrictor on that mofo.
Just found this on RDC;
Trophy Truck UPDATE: Robby Gordon has decided to switch himself back to the driver of record because it looks like he will be able to make it back from the Dakar Rally on time. Gordon's #1 Championship Truck will change back to the #1 plate and he will now have his friend Steve Kendal drive the truck for today's race. Kendal's goal is to make it around the track today and hand the truck off to Gordon who will charge for the win on Sunday. Gordon will be defending his win at last years 2009 SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge as well as his SCORE Trophy Truck Championship title.

I know Steve Kendel (He hangs, actually Mooches off of us at Fontana) and I cant believe Robby has Steve driving? WTF! when you have Ebberts and Gasper around. If Steve brakes or comes in last we will be sure to give him tons of shit at NASCAR this year. Man is his head going to be in the clouds now.
you didn't believe me? haha just playing.

so who is this guy???
Steve is a long time school friend of Robby's He works for the Arciaro's. His NASCAR Fontana camp is right next to ours and we have all hung out for a long time. Because he is close friends of Robby he thinks his shit does not stink. Steve is a good guy, just very cocky. But I still cant believe Robby chose him. I have more off-road experience over Steve. Steve has just been around Robby since his dirt bike days. Steve is interviewed in several of Robbys DVD's as Robbys childhood friend.

He is going to be total ass to deal with at NASCAR this year. If he brakes or comes in last I will be giving him so much shit he will go home crying!
Hey Nikal, sounds like you are a bit jealous...why don't you take the high road and not be nagative.
Jealous! Nope, just look at the results and tell me I was wrong about being shocked that Robby would want Steve to drive the first day.
