Charlotte, NC (January 14, 2010) – After clenching last year’s championship, Robby Gordon will return to SCORE International Off-Road Racing competition for the season opener, the Laughlin Desert Challenge, January 15-17. Gordon and members of his Monster Energy / Toyo Tires team will travel to Laughlin, Nev., immediately following the conclusion of the Dakar Rally on Saturday, January 16th. Gordon is expected to arrive in time to race in Sunday’s final day of competition.

In last year’s edition of the Laughlin Desert Challenge, the Monster Energy / Toyo Tires Chevy CK1500 trophy truck dominated the field by securing the pole on Friday, finishing second on Saturday and winning the main feature on Sunday. After recording a near perfect weekend, Gordon claimed the overall victory in the unique two-day racing event.

This year, Gordon has entered his father Bob Gordon in the No. 1 Monster Energy / Toyo Tires Chevy CK1500 in the event. Recognized as a legendary off-road racer, “Baja Bob” will qualify the No. 1 Monster Energy / Toyo Tires trophy truck on Friday afternoon by running one complete lap around the 6.25-mile loop. Bob will then compete in Saturday’s 8-lap race before handing the wheel over to his son for Sunday’s main feature. Gordon’s starting position on Sunday will be based on the finishing order of Saturday feature.

This year, 26 participants are expected to race in the featured Trophy Truck division of the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge. Saturday’s and Sunday’s events will include an 8-lap race around the 6.25-mile loop, which is expected to get underway at 1:00 p.m. PST on both days. All drivers are required to complete their eight laps within no more than 80 minutes, and the overall winner will be determined by the least amount of elapsed time needed to finish both days’ feature races.

“Racing and SCORE desert racing are clearly two things that I am extremely passionate about,” commented Gordon. “To compete in fourteen stages of the Dakar Rally and then rush back to the United States to race in the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge is something that most competitors would never dream of doing. After dominating last year’s event, we definitely have high expectations for this year’s race as well. I’m happy to have my dad in the Monster Energy / Toyo Tires trophy truck on Saturday; I’m sure he’ll get us a good starting position for Sunday.”

See TOG is right. Kendall was supposed to do 8 laps and get the truck to the finish. Which he did. RG takes over tomrorrow, then look out.
I got the info from the live feed, thats what the commentator said Steve was supposed to do.
Yup.
steve did a great job getting the truck around the track today, just finished prepping it for Robs turn tomorrow! stand by!
so have the boys made it to laughlin yet?
I think I heard they would be getting in around 9:30am Laughlin time.
Morning Scott...You seem to know what's going on. Per my last night question.
Did the TT finish in 17th....or was it a dnf in 19th ?? Score press release says...finished over the time limit.
You are correct, according to SCORE he did finish over the time limit and will start 19th. I was a bit worried about this because of how slow the truck was moving...but it appears they broke a shock mount. We had video of him finishing the race (which is uploaded on here), but he did not meet the time limit.

Not sure what happens today...either way...I am sure Robby will be on a tear.

ALSO, it appears there is NO AUDIO today on the TI feed. This may complicate things...especially with Robby starting in the back.

ALSO, a lot of the competitors are complaining the track is a mess and is not raceable. Hopefully Robby can adapt today and push it but still not break the TT.
there seems to be audio now.
that said robby will get a dnf for the weekend and no finishing point no mater what place he finishes today
Robby finishes 11th
Hate to say it but its time for a new Truck. Geiser Trucks are on a tear. Especially Andy's. At one point in the race today they ran 1, 2, and 3. Andy use to drive Robbys sister truck and had no results but ever since his new truck he is almost perfect. I hope I'm wrong but it might be time to go back to the drawing board. With races having to use the same track over and over again because of land closures you need something that will run the deep lines. Like I said, hopefully Robby proves me wrong!
