It sounds like Robby may not be running the full cup schedule, and that may disappoint alot of Robby's hardcore nascar fans. But what he plans on doing during his "off-weeks" has me absolutely excited. Robby says he is looking hard at running the Indy 500!! That alone would be awesome. But add in running the X-games rally race, building and (hopefully) running a monster truck, and running the Baja 500 & 1000. That is unbelievable. I am definitely looking forward to what 2010 will bring us as Robby Gordon fans, and I think it was worth the wait. What do you think??

HOPEFULLY- I will be in Daytona beach on Valentine's Day, I am an east-coaster as well. If not, looks like I'm going back to the cornfields of my youth to live a life-long dream: watching Rob win the 500!!!
Gang,

I don't post too often, but I do read your posts. I have a slightly different take on this - maybe it's my age, but I think this is fantastic.

RGM is having money problems....just like many American families are having today. Rather than pout, he's looking for other opportunities, investigating new ideas and staying positive. (at least it sounds that way). I've got a 12 year old son and this is the kind of example I'd like for him to have. Life doesn't always pave a yellow brick road for you. Sometimes it's sh*t. Your attitude and how you approach challenges is a measure of character.

Now, off the philosophy and on to the business side...a couple of things to consider:

- Nascar TV numbers are falling and they've ventured into a highly technical area that alienates much of their core fan base. I think you'll see this continue for some time. My point here is that "full time nascar" isn't the end all be all.
- I watched a motocross race this weekend and Joe Gibbs Racing had an entry. Wow. I think that's the end all be all situation that RG can aspire to. Competitive in a number of venues....he certainly sounds headed in that direction.
- by mixing up his schedule, RG has an opportunity to pull in fans/viewers, etc. from different demographics. This will probably lead to additonal sponsor opportunities. Based on the feedback on this site, I'm not sure we'd be as excited if RG ONLY ran Nascar.

I mentioned this above, but...F1 already provides a series for unlimited budget and technology. Basically, you can buy your championship for a very, very hefty price. Nascar has let itself start drifting down that path and it's very, very bad for them. It worked for a little while, but now it's catching up. They need to get back to their roots and understand why Nascar fans liked watching the races.

I'm grateful for this site - without it, I would have a REALLY hard time following RG and all the different stuff he's involved in.

How about a Web TV show following RG around this year? Man, that would be so cool.
your right on track, part of me thinks RG is reliving his 20's and going to set all racing on fire and kick some butt, then try nascar again in a few years....all the new fans will say....Wow look at this guy
Excellent post all around. Personally I can't wait for this season to get into full swing. Wherever he's racing I will be following whether it be on TV or online. Gonna be a fun year I believe.
I hope Rob is at Darlington - my home track.
If Robby is going to be successful with his new ventures, he needs to finish up near the top of the standings each race. Otherwise, he will not get the fan and press coverage that his sponsers want. However, I think he is diluting his teams efforts too much by trying so many different racing venues.

That said I still wish him go luck and top 5's.
what may seem like 'diluting'' to you, is a normal thing for him. The other ventures are not week in , week out series. He didnt start doing this yesterday.Enjoy it.
Interesting speculation in a column in the Indy Star:

Question: Robby Gordon says that he is "seriously considering" racing in the 500 this year. If Robby can raise the funds, would he be able to find a car and an engine lease? I'd like to see Robby get another shot at the win that got away from him in 1999. (Jim, Peoria, Ill.)
Answer: There are no issues getting a car or an engine deal; in fact, it's never been easier. I'd expect Robby to partner with an existing team. I don't know this for fact, but I imagine he's had discussions with Andretti Autosport about being that fifth driver at Indy. What was I saying about the top teams being stacked?! Fingers crossed on that one.

So wouldn't it be ironic to have Robby and Danica be teammates in the 500? Would they arm-wrestle for the rights to use the #7? LOL
Interesting in that Ryan Hunter-Reay will be driving for Andretti this year. Indy is one of the races Izod is sponsoring for him.
If he does to Indy I hope get a ride from Ganassi or Penske. I want him to have a chance to win.
Yes, less Nascar more other stuff. My dreams have been answered. I support Robby if he put together a Lawnmower racing team as long as it is not Nascrap.
dude, Jayski butchered the interview. He got it wrong. Simple as that. You are at the RIGHT place for Robby info, and if you re-listen to the interview, he said California was an open date for the #7, so instead of driving the #49, they will move the Warner colors to the #7 and drive the car there, locked in the race, and the #49 will run next at Las Vegas.
