Four New Hoofs Proves to be a Square Deal

  With respect to Robby and his whole organization I am happy to pronounce you man and wife. If there exists a marriage on this planet that does include in its matrix a bit of a power struggle, if not for at least a few awkward moments for some anyhow. As the years have past there has been a bit of a reputation building about Robby and his being the crew chief from the cockpit if you will. While the case can be made or denied is of little concern at this point and perhaps for all intent and purpose may be a thing of the past for all parties involved, which would be a good thing. however in the closing moments of the race in Phoenix there showed a slight budding of the conflict that can and often does emerge between a driver and crew chief. Living a drivers life like no other on the track the instructions or comments made by Robby Gordon not only carry a certain weight all its own but again are a characteristic that has been in question here and perhaps abroad. the too often changing of the guard could be seen as evidence of that. However as much as my flesh quivered with the thoughts of Robby Gordon not pitting and staying on the track on that all too costly for Kyle Bush caution I could foresee disaster at such an undertaking. Rather than stay out and steal many many spots and perhaps wrangle with all his will the brass ring from the dragons grasp Robby has his way and pitted for four fresh footprints. In looking back the risk vs. the reward was great and in this persons eyes a great service was done to himself and his image by taking tires and not be made a fool of by getting stomped all over and perhaps causing a massive clusterf$5#ck and dropping like a rock to perhaps worse than the finish all know and respect. My hat is off to Robby Gordon and his team but I must say I love to gamble and perhaps Robby had a good bet and perhaps not but in the end Robby made his choice known as many other drivers have done over the years and for all its worth and as wild as it might have been I can live with the safe bet.......for now.

As I said last night he would have been punted up the track and finished close to last on the lead lap. In this instance I side with Robby, had the circumstances been different as in not fighting for the top 35, you could give it a shot but not last night.

Robby knew he used his stuff up catching and passing the #6 & #77 . He abused those tires.

If the leaders did not come in, then Gene was correct for Robby to stay out. With the leaders pitting Robby would have gotten run over. The other option would be to go for two tires like Newman and he may have moved up to a top 10 start. Where he would have finished, is an unknown.

Part of Gene's decision to stay out may have been based on the slow previous pit stops and the loss of more then a couple of positions and Robby's comments about the pit crew.

well, after second guessing the call last night, and reading about both sides of the pit, it made perfect sence to get 4 tires.

maybe later in the year he and the team can gamble a little and try getting that dad to the bone 7 car up a little closer to the checkerd flag

No I don't drink very often and I was being pushed to get things done around the house. My kid told me to wait and take my time but my hands don't move as fast as my mouth and thus, my words trip over themselves when I hurry. In short, I sided with the tires but love a good fight.

Tires there was the only call, really! and i know i know we luv gene and all that but if as was likely the case the race goes green white checkered and now god forbid more than one'um, without tires, the last car on the lead lap would be the highest RG could have finished, remember the tires still SUCK, now that races can get longer and longer, tires are more important, even more so earlier rather than later, if the above situation plays all the way out. RG's crew chief call from behind the wheel may have kept the car in on points that could be the move that saved the cup program. Thankfully we'll never know, 7 is in on points, gas on to TexASS, hey thats where i am at, cool!

With the points being what they are, the right call was made. Robby has to run for points now and get a secure spot before making a gamble like that. However, Robby must become a driver and not a CC from behind the wheel if he ever expects to compete week in and week out.

I agree with Sam. Slow down and think about what you're trying to say before you just start typing. It's rad that you support Robby. However, as Robby Gordon fans, it is our obligation to show the world that our driver is exceptional. Not just because of his amazing talent for driving anything with four wheels, but also for the level of intelligence in the fans that follow him.
