It hasn't been a true ALL STAR race in many years. The last real ALL STAR race was when Kyle Petty wrecked Davey Allison crossing the finish line. Since then it's been about sponsors and special paint schemes to sell. Until Junior can win a Championship, every special event (Bud Shootout, ALL STAR race) will change formats to fit him in.
I'm not against Junior, but hate the way Nascar plays favorites, or protects their cash cows! I wish Junior would hurry up and win a Championship, then they would make things fair for everyone else.
You know Nascar cringes at some changes when they look at it and say, "Hey if we do this Junior will be eligible, but so will Geoff Bodine & Derrick Cope!"
If JR don't win a race this year, they will change the rules for next year and he will some how get in. Of course he will win the fan vote if it come to that. Don't know why so many people think he is so good. Robby is twice the driver jr is.
Overrated for sure. Probably about equal to M Waltrip, talent wise. They were both good when DEI found something with the restrictor plate cars. Giving up Kyle Busch to get JR reminds me of the Babe Ruth trade. Busch must REALLY be a prick (not hard to beleive) to give up his talent for JR's marketing ability.
Sad but true, I will give Busch credit, he has them all out classed in talent.
He just to big of a baby when things don't go his way. But I guess we all
are to a certain point, he just exceeds the limit.
Over-rated? Equal to Waltrip? Come on, the guy has 18 cup wins alone. Busch clearly has more talent, but dont sell Junior short. Im not even a Junior fan and this type of stuff gets under my skin...
Hold on now, don't want to get under your skin, just talking here.
So, if Jr races another 20 years and still has only 18 wins will he still be so good. I don't put so much into wins as I do with what equipment and resourses one has to work with. Jr has had the best of both and averages less that 2 wins per year by the same token I don't think Jimmy Johnson is the greatest out their with four straight titles, simply because with what they have to work with they should win. Expectation of reality is all I'm saying
Junior hasn't figured out the COT. It doesn't seem to suit him. Jeff Gordon hasn't exactly been setting the world on fire since the switch to the COT either.
Hating Jeff Gordon has been the one constant in my life for the last 17 years. Watching that little turd give away races this season has been a pleasure.
Sorry. That last rant was off-topic. All I am saying is that Junior/HMS/Pepsi isn't the first and won't be the last high-profile, can't-miss pairing that doesn't work for whatever reason.
