Pocono Driver Update

Ted Musgrave will take the wheel on Friday & Saturday,  while Robby Gordon drives at Baja. Gene Nead worked with Ted Musgrave when they won the 2005 Truck championship, and once it was learned that the entry list was going to be 45 drivers, they made a change. Ted has had a fantastic career at Pocono, with a 2nd place finish during his career there.Robby Gordon will return to the seat of the car in time for Sunday's race.

Ted is a better choice than PJ. Probably the best move given the circumstances.

Ted's Pocono stats are impressive, average start and finish. More importantly, Gene and Ted understand each other and Ted's feedback will give Gene the information he needs to get the car ready for Robby.

As an added incentive for Ted, there is a Truck series race at Pocono in August. A nice performance tomorrow could create an opportunity for him to get a seat in August's race. Better yet, maybe Ted can race the car for Robby at Martinsville if RG has a conflict.

Great call putting Ted in the car. This will give Robby the best chance of having the car race ready. Should give the team a good baseline as well. Is it the car or Robby???

You feel how you feel, yet facts are facts so in mixing both this is my opinion.
1) Owner points, the #7 has its grip on a lock in based on owner points, thus the driver of the 7 car is a variable just as any other car has. So, if the 7 car were to have a qualifying spot in the top ten then let Ted start the darn race. A caution lap at Pocono is an eternity and eternity is a long time, especially towards the end. Leaving the option to change drivers a very tricky one no matter if at all. If Ted were to start the race and he did fall through the field at best we would not loose a lap. But points are needed no matter how you slice it and a wise decision might have to be made only and only if Ted were to get that car an impressive starting spot. Hell if Robby wins Baja and the car has a real good starting spot show up in your best off road duds and have fun with it, you can always spin it any way you want.
2) I feel that Ted will get the car a solid spot but not so golden that Robby will ever have to face the issue.
Win Baja praise Ted and his effort with Gene and the team and stay the hell off the wall Pocono is one track where rim riding is only done if you have flat tires. I've driven that track and the feeling is over whelming. Off one into the Long Pond straight is the only flirtation one would ever have with the wall. Pay close attention to Mark Martin and his line through one compared to most everyone else.

Hmmm... if Ted get's a good starting position, keep it and and change drivers at a caution..... makes sense to me......

if somebody rim rides at pocono they have some serious issues going on......now next week at MI might be back to rim riding at least in turns 3-4

Smart, smart, smart, smart call. This is what I call doing one's homework. I remember Musgrave running very well at Pocono back in the day. He'll get the car in the show with no trouble.

This may even be the best qualifying run by RGM this season. Yes, I know, he'll have to go to the back, but I am just saying, this was a stroke of genius.

If this doesn't work, maybe they can open it up to some type of fan contest where the winner gets the chance to practice/qualify it! I ran a few laps at Pocono and at least brought the car back in one piece!

No driver swap on sunday...plans have already been announced, Musgrave's job is to qualify Fri and help dial the car in on Saturday. Hopefully Robby does very well sunday and repays Musgrave down the road with a race in a 2nd car.(Still got to get that $25,000 back from Nascar for that piece of wood)...maybe let's Musgarve ride around Sonoma and enjoy the view for a few laps.

Hmm Ted Musgrave in a 2nd RGM car at a RC? Ummm, sure.
