NASCAR Considers Single 21,500 Mile Race For 2011 Season

CHARLOTTE, NC—Citing the need to cut travel and promotional costs while
still providing a top-notch racing experience for fans, NASCAR president
Mike Helton will announce Thursday that the schedule for 2011 may consist
of a single 21,500-mile event. "Holding 36 separate races as we do now
is just complicated, and our fans have to learn a lot of different kinds
of ovals from week to week," said Helton, who also confirmed that the
three-week race would consist of either 8,600 laps of Daytona's
superspeedway or 43,000 laps of the half-mile "bullring" in Bristol, TN.
"We're also blessed with a fanbase who, by and large, could watch the
whole thing without having to miss any work or school." The announcement
was met with only moderate enthusiasm by motorsports insiders, who
pointed to the NHRA's disastrous 2003 attempt to condense its season
into a single 36-mile drag race.

WJM,

will the merchandise trailer be there?

and I hope Robby is locked in the top 35....cuz it would suck if he wasn't and pulled a Musgrave during qualifying (No offense Ted)
If true that NASCAR requires the start & parks to run at least 10% of the laps, 860 to 4,300 laps in this case depending on venue, they'll all stay home. The top 35 rule will be unnecessary.
LMAO
Very amusing, and I am sooooooooo happy that we have the best endurance racer in the series!!!
Someone needs to alert Jayski.
Bigzoom's on it!
Can't right now...busy working on 32 possible different paint schemes! And I have a list of 941 possible sponsors that would look good on Robby's car! Should have them all on Flickr.com by next Tuesday!
I can't believe The Onion didn't pick up this story.
While they are at it, there should be a rule that any fans leaving their seats during the race can't return. At the end of the race the stands would only have endurance RG fans and all their mobile devices for following the race. And lots of empty Monster cans.,
Monster cans filled with pee, if I can't leave my seat...
Hearing DW is gonna call the whole race by himself, with Bill Webber doing the pit road reporting. Wonder what the start and parks are gonna do for this race?
According to Catchfence.com Fox Network will carry the first half of the race allowing Darrell Waltrip to use his signature quote, "Boogity, Boogity, Boogity! Let's go racin boys!" every time the green flag waves.
