I know that PJ is Robby friend but since Casey Mears is without a ride now, maybe Robby can have Mears run the second car instead of PJ. Mears has more cup races than PJ this season and runs good on the road courses.
Sorry about Mears' luck ( a slew of top rides : Ganassi,Hendrick,RCR,Red Bull ) , but Robby has who he wants in the car this weekend.
I hate to say it, but Casey had his chances and he probably won't get another. He'll have a better chance of getting a good NNS or NCTS ride than another good Cup ride. I agree that he would have been a nice addition for the 07 car (wouldn't that be ironic), but PJ was 2 for 2 last year qualifying the 04.
Being related to Rick, I was always a fan of Casey Mears. I really saw potential when he finished in the top 6 in his first CART race at Fontana. Since then, he has had more than enough opportunity to prove himself in good equipment, and has consistently come up short. Sure, some of the teams he drove for had their issues when he was there, but at some point it has to be the driver.

Icing on the cake was running into the second Red Bull car at Michigan. If the book on his career in Cup wasnt closed, that move slammed it shut.

Also, in regards to PJ Jones, he could drive circles around Mears at a road course. Not only that, but PJ is Robby's friend and most likely an inexpensive hire.
At Sonoma PJ started 37 and finished 43. Mears started 21 and finshied 23.

At The Glen PJ started 39 and finished 41. Mears started 11 and finished 15.

2008 at Sonoma Mears started 23 and finshied 5 The Glin he started 24 finished 19.

PJ is not driving circles around anybody. I know he is Robbys friend but business is business I am sure PJ is an inexpensive hire, but why start and park when you can have a good finish and more exposure...

Robby has great cars Mears would do very well. IMO plus Mears needs the good exposure, so he just might be very inexpensive right now also...
It's appears that PJ's role is to displace a FRM car and thats about it
RG has a game plan in place for this weekend with his team. They arent bouncing around scenarios or ideas, they already know what the weekend goals are .
What makes you think that PJ couldn't do just as well if RGM didn't have him start and park last year? Bobby Labonte is better than half the field, but if you are in a start and park, how can you compare results?

Honestly; does anyone here think that the 88 isn't in the top 5 if Labonte is driving it?
Agree 100% on this.
You compare start and park PJ stats to Casey's finishes in a well funded RCR car? That's a joke, right??

How about PJ running in the top ten at the glen in a Morgan McClure car that didn't even belong on the track?
or 4th in the AJ FOYT #14 Conseco car back in the early 2000's
Not as good as PJ can run!

I'm not sure Mears can see over the steering wheel.
