Yeah, they are big boys and everyone knows the deal, but constantly complaining and berating the troops is not the most effective way of getting the best out of everyone. Sometimes you have to suck it up, lead by example, and keep everyone's head up and in the game. It's not about not being pansies or being in touch with anyone's feminine side, it's about true leadership in a time of stress and battle.
What would be worse is if you had a bunch of people sitting at home in front of their computers telling you what to do, as if they know more about what you're doing than you do yourself...
I can just see General Patton saying come on boys I know we can do better next time when the troops were making mistakes and getting their ass kicked by the Germans. You need to show passion in the heat of the battle.
Was Patton a good leader?
I don't use the f-bomb at my current job because it doesn't have the competitive environment like running a NASCAR race. It was a different story when I worked on a local crew and we all depended on each other.
If there's a bad pit stop, just have the cheerleaders come out and give a little cheer, and then a big group hug.... pizza party after the race if they try real hard, and no bad words....
I saw Bill walking on pit road after practice was over. Was'nt sure why he was there. He was practicing the 99&98 cars for Sunday race. That's a very cool thing to do. Right on Bill
