This may have already been mentioned, but I don't have the time to check through 40 some odd pages of post to check. I know everyone has a bit of heartache about the start and park thing, but economically, it really makes sense at times.

Todays results at Michigan in particular really emphasize this.

Sam Hornish, Jr. was the last car on the lead lap (according to NASCAR.com - another site shows him one lap down) and finished in 32nd place. P.J. parked the #7 after running only 64 laps and finished 37th. Only 5 positions behind the final lead lap car. Thats 136 more laps of tires and 136 more laps to risk tearing up a perfectly good race car. It's no fun, but hopefully the funds pocketed and information gathered from laps run can be used to race more competitively in the future.

How much of a difference was there in prize money between Hornish and P.J.? How about this - Hornish took home $79,950. P.J.? He took home $83,598. This is also more than Bill Elliot took home for a 22nd place finish. At least as far as today goes, there was absolutely no economic incentive to running a complete race as a back marker.

how does pj take home more $ than a 22nd place finisher? I've never understood that. Also what is TRIAD?
TRIAD is Robbys engine builder, and one of the leading engine suppliers for the Truck & NW series.

The #7 car is available for bonus programs each race, thus netting more money than other teams.
So is Dale Earnhardt, Jr - who finished 19th and took home $86k. Truex in 8th took home $85k. Crazy stuff.
Great info Thanks TOG
I can't believe the 8th place finisher only made $2,200 more then PJ.
So I wonder what exactly NASCAR might want or use the HP numbers for ?

My guess is that they are not looking for cheaters, and that most engine builders are past the point where they need this kind of intimidation to stick by the rules. So I have to wonder what the point of this really is ? Say they did discover some huge difference in parity : It's hard to imagine them taking any kind of action. I suppose they could just be curious, but one is tempted to think that there must be more to it than that.
Bob, they are looking for trends. Especially now that Ford has the new motor in play. I wouldn't take it to be anything more than that.
I disagree,I believe Na$crap looks at the numbers, looks to see why where's a variation( bad leak down, soft compression, other mechanical limitations) inspects for authorized parts and if theres a huge (my guess 20+max) difference,Na$crap while mandate a cam or intake manifold change via authorized parts bulletins.Who gets the most?Who pays Brian France the most.
(hope i dont sound stupid) but did RG accomplish his income goal (if there is one) this weekend...did he make a reasonable amount of $ this weekend?
I think as soon as the #07 made the race, and they loaded up 2 unwrecked race cars, it was mission accomplished.
With a bonus - no RGM motors taken by NASCAR.
