RGM still has a 63 point lead over 36th, and only another 32 behind 34th.  Could be worse, but I'd rather not have to worry about the top 35 each year...

Really, What did you think when Na$crap pulled the top 35 rule out of their ass half a dozen years ago?
I still think they did itto roger Robby. And as memory serves they instituted that rule just a couple of weeks before Daytona that year. Top 30 rule would be "consistent' with all three Elite series.Don't be suprised.
Robby couldn't have started his own Cup team at the worst time. In 2005, RGM's first year, NASCAR implements the top 35 rule. Robby misses Daytona plus 6 other races. In 2006, the CoT is introduced and is run at 11 races in 2007. 2008 CoT full-time. When you add to that the manufacturer switches and the parade of engine suppliers, it's amazing RGM is still with us today.
Top 35 rule has served its time, and should be eliminated. But don't look for it to be eliminated in the coming year.Prefer to see the fastest 43 in the race week in and week out,but owners would fight a rule that would possibly knock out cars, since anything could happen in quals.
$3.5Milluion..a year in Prize Money.. CHA-CHING!!
