Nascar Illustrated interview with Robby

Has anybody seen the November issue of Nascar Illustrated? Kris Johnson did an Up-Front interview with Robby about what's happening in his career and his future plans. Robby said that he isn't closing and driving for someone else because he's invested so many years into what they have and he's in too deep. He has commitments to his people who have shown loyalty to him. He also said that he's mellowed with age but he still has that same passion when he puts the helmet on. He says."I'm still a mad man."

He says he has no regrets and if you look at his life, as wild and crazy as he is, there's no real drama behind the scenes. He says he has a kid (son, Max) and he doesn't regret that in any way, shape or form. He's never been in jail, never had DUI's. He says he's wild, but it's a controlled wild.

When asked if he was satisfied with being where he is, he says "I still want more, I want to win, I want to be competitive. I don't like being 35th in the points. Can I win a championship? I don't care to win a championship." He goes on to explain that if he had the proper budget and 100% effort behind it, he could win one. but he'd rather play with his Monster truck or go to Baja or Dakar. He

said "Why do I have to spend every weekend in Martinsville or Pocono when I can be in Argentina or Baja?"

When asked if his legacy was going to be along the lines of Sinatra's "I did it my way", he said:

"I don't even care about doing it my way. I just like to have fun and do what I do. We can't take this too serious. We race cars for a living. Let's get real. At the end of the day, we are an entertainment business. I realized that at a very young age and today we're still in the entertainment business, so I'm happy with the way it is right now."

Dude, I can tell you this: Talladega IS NOT boring in ANY shape, form, or fashion! LOL! Envision beads being sold roadside for up to 50 miles outside of the track......"Redneck Mardi Gras" if you will. Also, they have a dirt race the day before the Nationwide race which is no holds barred. Charlotte has the W.O.O. event the night of the Nationwide race on the Coke 600 weekend and stuntman Spanky Spangler (no joke) in the fall. Also, Talladega and Darlington have Halls of Fame on site. Bristol has a little bit of everything at the fall event, parades and car shows downtown, concerts, and of course, beer olympics at the campgrounds! Lol! Sounds like maybe Sonoma needs to take some lessons!

Do you have any info on the dirt race at Talladega - we want to go to it this year.

Just look for the free camping across from the main entrance to the track. The dirt track is in the very far corner of the campgrounds. I'm not sure if they run it both races or not. Late Models and Open Wheel Modifieds ran there the last time I was at 'Dega back about 2006/07.

Switched from Red Bull to Monster...if Monster doesn't won't to be "fully involved" why not? Red Bull has 2 Full time Cup teams...that alone is a good enough reason for a Energy Drink company to support just 1 car. I'm sure they would get tons more exposure in Nascar. Did you ever hear of Wave Energy drink before it came into Nascar?
