Gordon still wants deal with Gillett, Gillett is who wants out?

Proposed merger may be in jeopardy

■ Robby Gordon said he still wants to merge with Gillett-Evernham Motorsports, despite a suit just filed against him by Gillett-Evernham.

Gordon, who has been using engines supplied by Gillett-Evernham this season, said he expects to have a legal response in the next few days to the lawsuit filed against him by the Ray Evernham-George Gillett operation that claims a breach of contract on a proposed sale of Gordon's NASCAR operation to Evernham-Gillett.

But already there are rumblings in the NASCAR garage over what might be the real story behind the suit: whether Evernham and Gillett don't really want to do that deal with Gordon any more, perhaps because they have a better proposal, or for some other reason.

One key part of the entire situation is Gillett's plan to move his team from its relatively isolated Statesville airport location down much closer to the Charlotte-Concord heart of the sport.

Evernham and Gillett haven't been here to explain the situation from their viewpoint, but Gordon said he still wants to do the deal with them. One key to the proposed $20 million deal apparently is a sale of Gordon's shop and real estate -- some prime racing real estate -- to Evernham and Gillett.

There is increasing speculation that Chip Ganassi -- a Dodge team owner like Evernham, Gillett and Gordon -- might also be a potential merger partner with Evernham and Gillett. And Ganassi has prime real estate too, right next to the Concord airport.

"Unfortunately I guess you'll have to learn more about all that in our answers to their complaint," Gordon said. "But we have a deal with them, we have a contract that is still in effect.

"What they have asked -- I wouldn't say it's so much against Robby Gordon, but they have asked for release from the contract. But we've already done so many things together that I don't know if that's possible."

Might Evernham and Gillett want to drop the Gordon deal so they can do a deal with someone else? "Maybe that's what the case is, but I'm not privy to that information, so I don't know," Gordon said.

if so, should be fun since Sadler hates him
So... do you guys think Yates Menards Gordon Racing, YMG, or Yates/ Gordon by Menards sounds better?
I keep thinking something along the same lines...
Anything sounds better than a 42nd place finish and sitting outside the top 35
After single handedly FUBAR'n his shot at building a quality team, he should go through with the 23.5 mil deal and take the estimated 5 mil a year contract. At this point what team in thier right mind would even hire Robby?
From Nascar Roundup (kind of echoing the artcile above)

Robby was quoted during the Saturday rain out, "I think when we answer the suit this week we'll be able to give the public more answers. We have a deal in place, and at this point I have every intention of moving forward with the agreement I signed. I don't think GEM is against Robby Gordon the driver, it has alot to do with our shop and other things I'm not at liberty to dicuss at this time. "
It was only a couple of weeks ago that people were going on and on about RGMS adding a second car to his team and Robby himself talked of it. Why would things like that get said if the team was always going to be sold. Hope Scott Riggs knows about all this crap, the way people were talking he was going to be driving the darn thing !
GEM could purchase RGM and it be owned by Gillett's son and field 2 cars. GEM even commented they hoped RGM could add a 2nd team.

Perhaps Robby would own that team as did Dale Earnhardt who drove for RCR...?

If Robby gets the merger to continue and has a 4 year deal with GEM...does Robby take the $23 million and run a full time Nationwide team?

Lot of questions still to be answered, but atleast we have more insight today than we did 6 months ago.
Ok, so who lives in Charlotte? We need someone to go down to the courthouse in a couple of weeks when RGM files their counter claim to the GEM suite. As NC has a freedom of information act, any NC resident can get the original GEM suite and RGM's counter claims. Then all we need to have happen is for that someone to scan it and e-mail to TOG for posting on the board.
This all sounds crazy to me.Is Ganassi really giving up on Nascar? Seems odd after Montoya could've left and gotten better ride if not for his loyalty to Chip.
Hey Chip ain't stupid. If the car ain't got no $$$ then he ain't spending the bucks to run it out of pocket.
I think it looks like Robby is going to cash all out, move to the river, race the CORR and offroad stuff and give Nascar the big finger for good. He is trying to squeeze some extra $$ with the counter suit from the GEMdicks. Brilliant. Few million in the bank once its all done and he doesn't have to deal with the hillbillies running nascar and have to attempt to compete against the mega teams that are ruining nascar. Orange County/Lake Havasu OR Charlotte, NC? Easy choice.
