Chase will go to top 10, plus 2 biggest winners: Twelve NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers will make the Chase for the Sprint Cup in 2011 -- the top 10 in points and the two drivers not in the top 10 who have the most race victories in NASCAR's 26-race regular season. NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France goes is expected to confirm that arrangement, along with a points system that gives 43 points to race winners and then one-point increments down to just one point for the last-place finisher. Each driver who leads a lap will get one bonus point, and regular-season race winners are expected to get two or three Chase bonus points for each victory. There will be no knockout rounds in the Chase, as NASCAR had hinted at earlier.(SPEED)(1-26-2011

People complain about the Chase but everyone QUICKLY forget how boring things were every fall as the champion coasted to his championship. I remember once championship that was decent under the old system..the 1992 championship was the best of all time, but it won't happen again any time soon.
I like this a lot.

It might be the thing that adds some new life into NASCAR and make more drivers race for wins, instead of being content with boring racing and just chalking up points. But a 5 point bonus for wins would be even better, but beggars cant be choosers.

I dont see where they say you have to be in the top 20 in points to qualify, that takes away a lot I think, allowing for whomever qualifies based on points or wins into the chase could be a boon for NASCAR, especially smaller underfunded teams, allowing them to scale back on races they attend, but actually RACE in the ones they attend. It then puts pressure on NASCAR to eliminate tracks that drivers dont attend for various reasons. Potentially its a win for everyone on the long term. But I'll hold out hope for all the positives and just hope it makes things a little more exciting this year.
LOL!! JJ took the Championship at Homestead..
Jayski didn't report the top 20 part, but I read it at Fox Sports and Nascar.com. It'll be announced officially in tonights performance by King Brian.
What about owners points ?
Don't see anything on Nascar.com about it..
The state of the sport address is on now live @nascar.com
1. Points system simplified by NASCAR for all three National Series: winning driver gets 43 points, 2nd gets 42pts, down to 43rd, which gets one pt. Winner gets 3 bonus pts, lap leaders get one pt, driver who leads most laps gets a bonus pt, so a winning driver can max out at 47 pts. If a driver is not running for a championship in that series, they do not collect points [owners will still gets pts], no word how owners pts are awarded to teams who fail to make the race...yet. (from jayski)

2. Top 10 in points qualify for chase, 11th and 12th will go to the driver with the most wins who are in the top 20 in points.

3. Pick 1 series to contend for drivers championship, drivers will still be able to compete in series but not get points

4. Incase of weather, starting race lineup will be based on practice speed

I'm typing as I'm hearing things so if I miss some stuff, sorry.

Everyone lost the video feed now, I'll update when it comes back on
#4 will make RGM need to unload fast for the races they plan on runnin
I don't like the top 20 deal either. It solidifies the 'top 35 and you're in' and I think that stinks worse than any other dumb ass thing Brian France has done. If one of the chosen few misses a race and falls back in the points, let him race for wins to make the chase. And, allowing a small team to make the chase because he pulled out a win or 2 would be cool. It's just more catering to the non-fan. Sucks.
So you're saying someone who is 28th or 35th in points should race for a championship? Are you crazy? The top 20 rule is a way to add sanity to the wild card scenario. Geez...there is no pleasing some people. What if Boris Said were to win Watkins Glen or Infineon....should he be in the Chase?

Wild Card is one thing but the championship should have some legitimacy.
they should make it that you have to race a full schedule to be eligible for the championship
