Poll: wonder if any class one cars would merge to the TT class after seeing the Hummer?

just a thought, after watching the success of the converted Hummer over the last couple years, how many 1 cars thought of switching over to some sort of full body in order to attract those precious sponsor dollars? Just a thought!

I think what RG showed the comp at the 500 is more related to scale and less about class 1 with a body. Lighter smaller aerodynamic. Essentially more priority on efficiency.
@ Nikal,as you remember that first class 1 truck originally started in class 7 until HDRA/SCORE and the competitors realized how exotic those two truck were. The other truck ran in class 2 with Arciero driving. ahhhhh the good ol days of desert racing.

MJ, Dave Shoppe in the Yellow General tire class 8 truck, had one nice piece. That guy always drove smart, and was the most conservative driver out there at that time, proving slow and steady could win back then. That thing had a ton of wheel travel with the ever famous ford twin i beams. The Walker Evans Dodge Dakota had a ton of power, but didnt last long class in 8.
it eventually found its way back to class 7 where Brendan Gaughan and JC Dean piloted it to a class championship. It was awesome to see the transformation of technology in all classes, especially class 8, 7, and 7s. Back then the trucks ran up to 4 shocks per front wheel, and had limited travel. Of course back then they had to use factory A-arms, and were only allowed to strengthen them. Thats Why the Fords in all classes kicked ass, because they were using the stock I beams, just they were tweaking them to gain as much as 20+ inches of wheel travel all the while using the bone stock I beams. Needles to say, we began to see lots of Fords competing for the overall, which was really unheard of until then. the rulese had to be changed to allow the Dodge and Chevy contingent to be able to compete. It was good times for sure.
Also. the class 8 trucks were running 33-12.50-15's for tires. super small compared to now a days with the 40's. Steve kelley in the Miller American sponsored Chevy was the first guy I've seen to to go to 35" tire. the 7s guys were running 31-10.50-15's. Again a small tire compared to todays standard.
wow... great link! i remember seeing alot of these cars back in the day. makes me feel old!!! i was a big class 5 / class 5 unlimited fan back in the day. i remember the old vmar racing car (pic 44 in this link). for awhile, they had a surfboard strapped to the roof and some rasta color paint jobs... outlaw racing (mike james?) had one of the best class5 unlimited cars i have ever seen!!!! damn i gotta build another car!!!!
LOL I knew you OLD TIMERS would like that link . The funny thing is i'm an old timer too just being here on the east coast I basically had to rely on the magazines of the day or what little tv coverage there was back then to learn all my knowledge . Thats why you'll see alot of the time you'll notice i defer my comments to Tog , Tool or now Nikal . I wish i had grown up out there so i couldve expericed first hand those GOOD OLD DAYS . You all are soooo lucky . Hell 1/2 the reason i want to move out there is so I can FINALLY get to a race before i die lol . My biggest bucket list item is definatly going to the Baja 500 or 1000 .
