A week after Red Bull, Crown Royal Announces Leaving Roush

Another sponsor announces they will change their sponsorship strategy...and Crown Royal's future doesn't include Matt Kenseth's 17 car and Roush Racing.

With Jack Daniel's and Jim Beam gone from Nascar, Crown Royal will now follow. After years of trying to break into the sport, all three liquor companies have changed their marketing strategy to exclude Nascar team sponsorship. Jack Daniel's and Jim Beam left in 2009, but Crown Royal still had 2 more years left on their agreement. Crown Royal has informed Roush they too would not return after this year.

Official Statement from Crown Royal: In evaluation of our NASCAR programming and after much consideration, we have made the decision to make a strategic shift to focus our resources against our annual Crown Royal "Your Name Here" program which awards race naming rights to an adult fan. The Your Name Here program has provided NASCAR fans with an experience that is unrivaled in sports and in recent years has shed light on some of the remarkable military servicemen and servicewomen who proudly serve our country. We look forward to elevating this program as well as continuing our presence in the sport through an experience that our fans have grown to love. The specific details regarding how we will honor these heroes at next year's entitlement will be announced at a later date.
In shifting our strategy, we will end our sponsorships with Roush Fenway Racing and NASCAR upon the conclusion of the 2011 season. We have developed strong relationships with the people at both organizations - they have not only been fantastic business partners, but have also become our friends. We thank them for working with us throughout the years to showcase the importance of our social responsibility initiatives. We look forward to a strong finish to the 2011 season and like the many fans we've gained along the way, we'll never stop rooting for the #17 car on its way to Victory Lane.(Crown Royal PR)

NASCAR sealed its fate when stopped being a race sanctioning body and threw their lot into becoming an entertainment conglomerate.

The top level of stock car racing as we once knew it died February 18, 2001.
I always felt that auto racing was by far the most interesting sport in the world. The world is now the most interesting sport in the world. For all you folks who are old enough to remember a Saturday night at the local track and a Sunday afternoon watching a live race (I also sat and watched a lot of frggin wide world of sports figure skating for the race "cut in") .......i'll fast forward..... I bought and borrowed from the local garage my racing news in a magazine. The world got to tight and busy with this thing we are using right now. This right here. I knew the end would be brutal when all the Big Biz bailed. I'm getting all lathered up and frothing, I wish racing was still mid to big, I wish mud still had a feel to it I wish so much did not depend on such big money, but face it the doors are closing everywhere. There is not one person in NAZICAR that will die poor or broken the only one who will is the fan.
Very true words. When NASCAR began equating themselves on the same level as the stick and ball sports, that, in my opinion, signaled the beginning of the end. The NASCAR Hall of Fame will never equal or rival Canton or Cooperstown. The HOF will end up being a ward of the State and a financial embarrassment to the city of Charlotte. I'll be very surprised if the new television contract is one-third of the $4.5 billion, 8 year deal they negotiated in 2005.

We could see more teams merging to consolidate and lower costs. A renewed push to rescind the 4 car limit per team. More start and park monies changing hands under the workbench to avoid breach of the TV contract. Less "Official This and That of NASCAR" sponsor renewals. More sponsor thievery by NASCAR to support their top heavy bureaucracy or the most influential team owners.

Wait a minute, that's sounds like CART. And we know how that ended.
There aren't any other liquor sponsors left in NASCAR, correct? Not terribly surprised they left.
Jeremiah Weed still is on the 17 for a few races i think
That's a "malt beverage", isn't it? Just flavored piss-beer, not hard liquor.
Of course there is GT Vodka in Nationwide.
its a bourbon brand, they do sell malt beverages as well.
Jeremiah Weed is a beverage? And all this time I thought it was....
I just assumed Jeremiah Weed was owned by Crown Royal.
yeah they are owned by the same company. i guess next time i should do my research ;)
February 2014: Robby outsmarts them all: last corporate sponsor leaves NASCAR leaving RGM/Speed Energy as the only fully-funded team in Vodaphone Cup Series.
Kind of related, but TV companies who follows the race should do more showing of cars and talk about what's really going on throughout the field.
It's so much more interesting to hear teams talk about their week

And I feel credit is due to the 48 team for winning 5 straight, but there are other teams who need them recognition. Old 5 time, its good for him lowes, but sucks for everyone else (unless your the 24 and 88)
