Latest on RGM news for 2009

Getting lots of conflicting stories about RGM's future for 2009. Hearing 1 of 3 scenarios likely to take place, but alot depends on Menard's decision.

If Menard opts to stay with DEI, Inc., Robby would join DEI and take over the #01 (becoming the #7) in 2009. Giving DEI Truex, Menard, Gordon & Almirola for it's lineup in 2009. Regan Smith would likely run full time in the Nationwide or (if Gordon finishes inside the Top 35 along with the #01, the #01 could run under RGM's banner (pending sponsorship).

If Menard chooses to join Yates Racing then Robby could join DEI but, would need to find sponsorship to replace Menards (possibly Monster?)

or (new twist) hearing after the test at Charlotte, Penske could be a strong possibility. Robby felt very good after the test with his Penske power, and with drivers David Stremme and Sam Hornish still unproven in the Cup ranks, Robby would be in position to replace Newman at Penkse's top along side Kurt Busch.

Supposivley Menard should have a decision soon with an official announcement at Dega or Charlotte.

Hearing that Penske is supplying some manpower with the engines for the rest of the year as well. The engine tuner from Newman's winning Daytona 500 car is going to be tuning Robby's engines the rest of the year. This could be a very good thing....especially at Dega

when does a kick-ass driver like RG finally say I'm sick and tired of finishing like shit in my cars? The media fawns over guys like Johnson, Hamlin, Edwards because they happen to drive for top teams...not because they have super-human talent. It must drive RG crazy knowing he could be in that same company were it for better equipment.

Dude - make the deal..either GEM, Penske, RCR..whoever - and get your ass into contention for 2009.

I would like to see him merge with a team that is already performing at a top level. Even though Penske is a good thing for us for the rest of the season, I don't see it being too beneficial all next season. If it were possible to merge with DEI or RCR, I think that would be our best shot to be competitive every week. I would love to be a fourth car at RCR, because they have their stuff rolling right now and they are consistent. Hopefully RG can keep this car inside the top 35 at the end of the season so his owner points are worth something next season. I would like to merge with someone next year so that we can start the first five races inside the top 35 next season, and be competitive throughout the year instead of 5-6 races a year.
