RIP...Dan and thanks for allowing the rest of us to be amazed at your talents.
I remember watching the race live when Greg Moore crashed...I knew it was fatal the second it happened. When I saw this one I thought the same thing. RIP Wheldon and Godspeed.

I suppose one of these days they will figure out that 225-230 at these small ovals is too fast.....
I'm still in shock, my heart goes out to his family
Just got to thinking God must have one hell of a race team just think of all the champions he has up there with him
DAVEY ALLISON
ALAN KULWICKI
DALE SR
RITCHIE EVANS
ADAM PETTY
JASON BALDWIN
and i know there is a bunch i left out . Now he adds Dan and Rick to his stable of champions .
Dave Kallmann from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel put together a somber list of racers that are now racing in a better place:

Dan Wheldon, 2011

Scott Kalitta, 2008

Eric Medlen, 2007

Paul Dana, 2006

Darrell Russell, 2004

Tony Renna, 2003

Dale Earnhardt, Blaise Alexander, Michele Alboreto, 2001

Kenny Irwin Jr., Adam Petty, Tony Roper, 2000

Greg Moore, Gonzalo Rodriguez, 1999

John Nemechek, 1997

Scott Brayton, Blaine Johnson, Jeff Krosnoff, 1996

Russell Phillips, 1995

Neil Bonnett, Rodney Orr, Roland Ratzenberger, Ayrton Senna, 1994

Joe Booher, 1993

Clifford Allison, Gary Batson, Jovy Marcelo, 1992

J.D. McDuffie, 1991

Bill Vukovich III, Rich Vogler, 1990

I grew up around racing and love almost every minute of it... but days like today are the hardest and simply leave you at a loss for words.
Gordon Smiley 1982
Mark Donohue 1975
Swede Savage 1973
Tony Bettenhausen Sr. 1961
Bill Vukovich I 1955
Colin McRae 2007
Richie... Kinda like the Robbie & Robby thing with me.

God Speed Dan and my prayers go out to his family.
You forgot Davey Allison
sorry derek i mentioned him above troopers reply im sure theres many on this list that werent mentioned but im sure they havent been forgotten . We all need to take time out of our hectic and busy lives and just think about just how precious life truly is . It's just a shame that it always takes something like these losses to make us do it .
I think (and don't quote me on this) that the list was drivers who lost their lives in actual racing accident... thus the absence of greats such as Davey and Alan Kulwicki.
@Trooper, after looking at the list,it's a racing/testiing/practice.list.
