I retweeted this, from The Late Show but for those who don't follow me @Smiling_Bob_ here ya go...In Memory: Watch Dave's entire interview with @IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon from June 6, 2011. http://bit.ly/pxDtQ4
Been avoiding this as long as I could, but on Saturdays chat I said the nascrap race was boring and could'nt wait to see the Vegas race on sunday. I said they be going 222.50, with 34 cars, man it will be a fun race to watch, lots of crazy stuff in this one for sure, little did I know the outcome (think some planet people agreed with me).. RIP--DAN WELDON-- you raced all the way ................prayers and thoughts for the family
My father, unfortunately, was part of both Dan's and Greg's pitcrew the day they passed. Both crashes were hard to watch, but Greg's crash is one of the worst that I've ever seen, but that might be more personal. I was going to go to both of those races, but canceled. The Vegas wreck was chaos.
I saw two drivers after the wreck and things were beginning to become apparent whose reactions and body languages made me want to tele-port across the nation and slap them. I won't mention any names and all that but I know on a personal level a few folks who seem to carry on with self centered indifference in the face of others suffering and seem to be immune to human emotion all the while they bleep and blab there idiotic opinions as if they are the know all to end all. I've come to find in my old age that you only need a few good friends with character, trust and a dogs sense when the chips are down. The last thing I needed to hear was an I told you so...................yes I'm over reacting a bit but hell I just can't stand some folks MOUTH. and with that I'll say racing is a spectacle to behold and if you go as far back in time to horse and buggy till the end of time racing will be a certain amount of no control or it is not racing. Sunday night I was like "Where has part of me gone, I am who I am and the losses will never end, racing is racing and innocent children get sick every day I don't know why or where the world is but racing is in my blood, I just have a hard time figuring out why for what reason suffering exsists. It all just keeps moving along and what will we be without it"?

tough deal, no doubt.
My ONLY complaint about the ABC broadcast was the BS comment the announcer made when they zoomed in to Franchitti , in his car before the 5 lap parade. He said something like " Who says race car drivers never show emotion" I am pretty sure I have NEVER heard ANYBODY ( critics, fans, etc ) ever question the emotions of drivers . The most common " who says drivers aren't " statement usually centers on the "athlete" debate. But he was off base on the emotion comment. Nobody I know of has ever questioned drivers emotions.
I agree with you Vick. I think that comment was forgotten about with the closing one at the end of the broadcast: I felt that one tugged at the heart, and it will stick with me for a long time. JMO
