Now that Robby has decided to own his own team and not sell out to another team, what are the chances he brings on a partner? To me, this is the only alternative that will allow Robby to build on what he has and be competitive week in and week out. What does everyone think?

Good comments Ms. G.
the only reason that the teams got investors is because the investors think nascar is going to franchise the teams that way they will be like other high dollar sporting teams and worth alot more money than what they invested in. These investors invest money to make money, a nascar team that they invest in spends about 450,000 dollars per race to be competitive Robby spent over 100 grand per race on engines alone so if they put up 10 mill per team(might be going rate) the only way to make money for them in the long run is to have a franchise and then scale every thing back speck cars, thats why the invest. every investor wants the team that they are in with to be a 4 car team. have 10 teams everyone is all running the same cars
If the new chassis is successful at Loews - ie a top 10, and then at the remaining cookie cutters, RGM maybe in position to be a major chassis builder for the other independent teams. Could be a whole new revenue stream for him. While sheet metal tweaks can be seen and copied, chassis geometry is difficult to eyeball and materials used are difficult to discover.

Just speculating...
I guess my question is how does RGM get the added capital to compete week in and week out against the likes of Childress, Hendrick, Gibbs, etc.? Gibbs is the only successful team without a huge budget, but they have huge sponsorships. RGM needs something to get them to a level where they can get a second team and where people will want to come and drive there.
I think you probably are right Lance. He will need a second team at least to get competitive unless he does have a technological breakthrough of some sort. But, unfortunately, many of the other comments here are well founded also. The economy may prevent Robby from growing indeed he will be lucky to survive the storm if it gets too bad. Right now he will do good to stay afloat.

I guess my point is what is Robby trying to do with this? If he truly wants to be successful in Sprint Cup as an owner he's got to make some changes starting now. I would prefer him buy into an existing team and merge, such as with DEI or Yates. That isn't happening. At this point Robby needs to seriously look at everything in his program and decide how he is going to move it forward.
I do not think he can add anything. He is not a big name like Tony Stewart and has minimal attrractiveness. The only thing I can see if is a driver joins that brings sponsorship with him. If that happens and he has success on the trackm then maybe he can add....but doubtful
A bigger issue than having an operation that could attract a second driver is having an operation that would attract an all around stronger team, particularly at CC.

There are plenty of drivers out there good enough to win in Cup, provided that the car is good enough.
RG needs to get one of his "Extra" cars to the track the first 6 races of next year at the track with a slapdick driver and only enough sponsorship to buy 2 engines and some tires. This will do 4 things.

1. Increase the ammount of tires they have to choose from at the track.
2. Put more pressure and possibly knock another team out of he top 35 and keep the ones out at the end of this year out.
3. Share some info.
4. Help add to the preception that RGM is a growing multi-car team to get some more sponsorship for next year.

Then after race 6 dump the team. You never know.... that team may make the top 35 by race 6 and RG could sell off the points.

I look at it like this... BJ's Hummer team was supposed to be a chase team. But in the end.... Saved the proformance for the CER.

It's always better to have a plan B or some extra support....

An extra team, a very, very lean extra team would be worth it. Even if the car was brought to the track towed behind the RV. And the RV driver was actually the slapdick car driver. If they made 2 out of those 6 races it would fuck someone's year up. And the winnings could maybe buy the driver another attemp or two.

You could put a Cup car on the track for 6 races for about 250-300K if you used some of the engines twice or three times.
Wasn't this idea supposed to be for something else ? lol.
Damn! That's almost genius.
Not a bad idea, good thinking Fly, this is the kind of unconventional or "outside the box" ideas that could set RGM apart from the othe lower tier teams, and its not much of a risk
