He sounded pretty confident he would be running It. I'm sure there is a new rig and RG is teaming up with someone who has done it before.

Agreed, super specialized rigs. You don't just crank out a crawler to compete at the level those guy's run at without a whole lot of R&D first.

I think that it goes without saying that if Robby Gordon gets into this type of racing his involvement will quickly raise the standard of what it takes to win. And he will of course win. I wasn't aware this race even existed until reading about it here, but it does look interesting. Combining open desert racing with semi-boring rock crawling sounds like fun.

I would keep an eye on this one. ...Team Speed has a huge task in front of them to worry about right now with DAKAR. IMO, the thing to do for the 2012 event in February, would be to have someone else build the Rig. This may be in the work's already. Tyler (my Son) told me a couple days ago that Shannon Campbell and Robby had a working relationship through Monster at one time. That being said it is all speculation at this point......

@Poncho, the monster truck thing may have had an impact. I think that this "King Hammer" would be bigger. This newer form of Crawlin then hall ass then crawl some more is getting popular. The sport is talking off....I hope he does this event. If Robby goes this year I for one will be there......

A Monster Truck would have WAY more marketing exposure.  KOH is a really cool race though, but no where near the amount of target audience, not even close.

If no investment is made by RGM to race KOH, ie he drive someone elses equipment GO for it.  If investment is required, Monster Trucks, X Games Rally etc would be a much better business move, if you had to choose one...

This clip gives you a good idea of what's up....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vy_a1pmrP74&feature=g-vrec&c...

Robby has a good to great realationship with Greg Adler ( 4 wheelparts ) as Robby runs his logos on all of his rigs and vice versa with Greg on his short course truck. Seems to me that would be a natural connection being as Greg has dove into the Ultra 4 ( that is what king of the hammer rigs are being called ) class pretty hard the last 2 to 3 years. Shannon is the Robby of the Ultra 4 world period! He also has Monster so far up his a$$ that the chances are very very slim that they would have anything going. I firmly feel that this is a area that Robby could really shine and shine well! There are/were a lot of new rigs being designed and developed in the last 3 years that show promise. Shannon of course being on the cutting edge of this trend with ifs front linked rear. JT Taylor and gang have a old class 8 style front with the TTB using trick 9 inch parts. I look at it this way, Robby is always looking to turn the offroad world on its ear. Every time he brings something new to the game everyone else gets pissed because its usually very out of the box and with time becomes hard to beat! This Ultra4 racing lends its self to idea and technology that most have avoided or have not thought of, Shannon now has a wicked stout 4wheel drive class 1 car that most agree is only a few bugs away from pissing a lot of people off do to its potential! Now start thinking 4 wheel drive hummer ot TT that has the top speed of the 2 wheel drive TT or Hummer now... This is what this kind of racing will allow them to learn, Shannon did.

Just my thoughts, nothing more!

Wow,crazy to hear JTs name on here. He is a freind of mine.

Maybe ultra 4 (class 4400) could be a proving base for future Dakar stuff

watched this on youtube and this is the bomb hell ya do it Robby
