2012 Dakar - Prelude To Stage 1

Getting close to the start of the 2012 Dakar Rally.  In the days leading up to the start of stage 1 , there will be many cool events taking place. The local Argentina TV stations usually live feed the Dakar parade. We will provide the links as well as replay any of the footage. Also, there is scrutineering ( tech inspection ) & the "opening day" festivities ( aka the Robby Gordon ramp launch - 2011 Footage HERE ). Going to be a fun ride, no doubt. They will be flying to Argentina on the 27th of December.

The organizers are working on final preparations ahead of one of the most important events of the year.

On Tuesday 27 December will be a key day in the Dakar Rally after 2012, as well as being taken to the northern breakwater Mar del Plata, the 680 vehicles that arrived this week at the port of Buenos Aires, most of which came from neighboring countries or by air, arrive at Ezeiza foreign pilots and copilots.

Starting next Wednesday, and until the feast of the symbolic start on Saturday December 31 in front of Hotel Provincial of the spa town, the activity will focus on the Dakar Village, which is being mounted at Naval Mar del Plata.

Nine civil and military helicopters will be stationed at the naval base to support tasks related to the event.

It is expected that the ceremonial start next Saturday for enhanced brilliance and color of the machines and protagonists of the race with the concurrence of the mass of tourists who annually visit Mar del Plata for the summer.

Once the 1 January competitors leave the Plaza Colón, in the formal beginning of the rally, headed toward the Pampa as part of the initial stage, in the first day which, according to organizers, will not lead to shocks and, as is usual, will serve them warm.

I know it's not exactly RG's style, but I hope he and the crew get some rest in the couple of days before the rally starts... it'll be a exciting couple of weeks as they rumble towards the podium.  Thank you in advance TOG & WJM for your (as always) outstanding coverage of the Rally!!

At the end of the artical it's nice to see that the organizers are generous enough to serve the competitors "warm" ??????? (lost in translation right?) Getting excited as it gets closer, hoping for great success for Robby and Nasser.

After the competitors have mingled with the crowd during the public presentation ceremony at the seaside resort of Mar del Plata on 31st December, the small dunes to be crossed on short warm-up special stage will be the first huddle. The fastest time will establish a first winner and determine the competitors’ positions in the rankings. After this, there will be a long liaison section to Santa Rosa de la Pampa.
