Charlotte, NC - Grabbing his third top-ten restrictor-plate finish of the 2008 season, Robby Gordon and his No. 7 Menards team look to carry their momentum to Charlotte, NC for this weekend's race.
Gordon says he has enough sponsorship to run the full NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule next season and has no interest in driving for anyone but himself. Gordon said Menards is among the sponsors coming back. Word is Polaris & Monster Energy Drink will also sponsor Gordon's team in some capacity. Jim Beam announced last November that it would sponsor Gordon through 2008 and has not yet announced its plans for 2009, but looks to make a decision at the end of the season.
Gordon has no agreement in place with any manufacturer next season, but looks likey to stay with Dodge. Gordon has a engine-leasing deal with Penske and seems very happy with his new motors. Robby was one of three Dodges to finish in the Top 10, but the only Penkse engine driver that finished problem-free. Both Ryan Newman & Kurt Busch experienced engine problems at Talladega, and Sam Hornish failed to qualify.
Indications are Robby will have another team operating out of his shop next season, no word if this would be a 2nd RGM team, alliance with another Cup team or merger. Gordon was tight lipped on any details.
Gordon is confident heading into this weekend's race. "We had two really good days of testing last month. We posted the 13th fastest overall speed. We went there with our latest chassis / geometry and learned a lot," said Gordon. The guys at the shop have been working extremely hard to build and improve on this latest spec. The car seemed to be real good in both qualifying and race trim, and we have made even more improvements since the test."
"Everyone takes their best equipment to Charlotte because everyone wants to win at their home track. We feel that we have one of our best race car on the truck and can't wait to unload it for this weekend's race. I am confident that we have another great finish. Every point counts as we near the end of the season, and this weekend is another chance to spread the points gap," Gordon commented.
Gordon will drive the #7 Menard's Dodge this weekend.
